If your First Data FD150 has stopped processing transactions, first identify whether it connects by phone line or internet. Check that connection, then restart equipment only as directed by your payment provider. Error codes and settings can vary by processor, so contact the provider tied to your merchant account before changing Datawire or terminal configuration.
Start by identifying how the FD150 connects
Clark Brands’ troubleshooting guide for its FD130 and FD150 terminals begins by distinguishing phone-line processing from internet processing. The correct checks depend on which connection your merchant account and terminal use; do not assume every FD150 is configured the same way.
- Dial connection: The terminal uses a phone line.
- Internet connection: The terminal communicates through your internet service, using the connection configured for your setup.
If you are unsure, check the installation paperwork or ask your processor before changing settings. Clark Brands describes the initial checks in its FD150 processing troubleshooting guide.
FD150 stopped processing: check the connection first
If the terminal uses a phone line
- Check that the phone cable is firmly seated at the terminal and phone jack.
- Check the line for a dial tone using the provider’s recommended method. If there is no dial tone, contact your phone service provider.
- If the line appears to work but the terminal still cannot process, contact your payment processor for account- and terminal-specific help.
If the terminal uses the internet
- Test internet access on another device connected to the same service. If that device also cannot get online, the issue may be with the internet service or network rather than the terminal.
- If internet service is down, restart the modem or router according to your internet provider’s instructions. If service does not return, contact your ISP.
- Once internet service works, restart the FD150 using the instructions for your processor. Clark Brands says to disconnect terminal power for about 10 seconds, reconnect it, and wait for the terminal to finish restarting. Other providers may give a different restart sequence, so do not treat that timing as universal.
- Retry a transaction only after the terminal has fully restarted. If it still fails, contact your processor rather than changing network or payment settings by guesswork.
Talus Pay also recommends checking network connectivity and cables or link status as appropriate to the setup. Its restart steps differ from Clark Brands’, which is why it is safer to follow the instructions for your own provider: Talus Pay’s FD150 troubleshooting guide.

FD150 VXN error 53 and other communication errors
Talus Pay describes VXN 52, 53, and 54 as communication errors. Its guidance for VXN Error 53 is to test internet access from a computer, reboot the router if internet is unavailable, and contact the ISP if service remains down. If internet works, restart the terminal and try again. These descriptions and steps come from Talus Pay’s support guidance; they are not a universal diagnostic standard for every processor.
- VXN 53: Talus Pay says the terminal is not detecting an internet connection. Verify service on another device before concluding the terminal itself is at fault.
- VXN 52 or 54: Talus Pay groups these with communication errors and advises checking internet or phone service, depending on the terminal’s connection.
- VXN 13: Talus Pay says this can require Datawire setup and directs users to Clark Client Services. Gravity Payments publishes a separate provider-specific procedure involving a DID setting. Neither should be followed unless it matches your processor and configuration.
Do not change DID or Datawire settings based on a code alone. Gravity Payments’ support page describes a menu path for its own users, but terminal menus and account configuration can be provider-specific. Ask your processor to confirm the correct procedure before changing those settings. Paysafe’s First Data help center likewise separates resources for Datawire errors, ping tests, Wi-Fi setup, manual settlement, keypad tests, and device ID lookup; choose instructions for your exact processor and symptom.

FD150 blank receipt or printing problem
A blank or improperly printed receipt may be caused by how the paper roll is loaded. Gravity Payments’ FD150/130 instructions describe this loading process:
Rank #3
- Open the top paper bay using its black latch.
- Insert the roll with the shiny side up and facing away from the terminal screen.
- Leave excess paper hanging outside the bay, then close the lid.
- Tear off the excess paper.
If the receipt remains blank or printing is still faulty after checking the roll orientation and lid, contact your provider. Avoid disassembling the terminal or trying unverified cleaning procedures.
KeyBank’s FD150 setup guide names Appleton POS Grade Plus 600-2.4 paper. Before ordering replacement rolls, verify dimensions and compatibility against the guide provided with your terminal or processor bundle; the sources do not establish that every thermal roll fits every FD150 setup. See the Gravity Payments loading instructions and KeyBank’s FD150 setup guide.

When to contact your processor—and what to have ready
Contact the payment processor or terminal provider associated with your merchant account if the connection is working but transactions still fail, if an error persists after the relevant connection checks, or if you are being asked to change a payment setting. The processor can verify account configuration and determine whether the fault is with the terminal, network, or payment service.
For the Clark Brands support path described in its guide, have the store DBA, store phone number, store address, and Buypass ID ready. Clark Brands lists its support availability as Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. CST, with separate after-hours escalation contacts. Those details apply to that support arrangement, not to FD150 users generally; use the contact information supplied by your own processor.

Best Value
- It can be a gift option
- Comes with secure packaging
- Helpful in various ways
When calling, report the connection type, the exact displayed error code, whether another device can access the internet (if applicable), and the checks you have already tried. This helps support staff narrow the problem without assuming the terminal has a particular fault. Clark Brands’ current troubleshooting and escalation details are at its FD150 support page.
