The second-generation Fire TV Stick 4K Max was reported at $35 on May 21, 2026, roughly $25 below its $59.99 list price. That was a strong reported deal, but it is not proof the price is still live: check the Amazon checkout price and seller before ordering. The device is the 2023 model, not one of Amazon’s newer 2025 Fire TV sticks.
What the $35 deal actually means
A May 21, 2026 deal report said the Fire TV Stick 4K Max had dropped to $35 and characterized that as its best price in about a year. The report is not a complete price-history record, and the available information does not confirm the offer remained available later in 2026. Treat $35 as a dated price, not a live quote or a guaranteed lowest-ever price. The May deal report gives the observation and its price characterization.
At $35, the price is about 40% below the commonly stated $59.99 list price. Before buying, make sure the listing is for a new second-generation unit sold by Amazon or a retailer you trust; check whether the price requires Prime, whether the listing is renewed or used, and whether shipping, tax, or a different bundle changes the total. The reported deal does not establish those checkout details for a current listing.
Which Fire TV Stick 4K Max is on sale?
The relevant product is the Fire TV Stick 4K Max, 2nd Gen, released in 2023. Amazon identifies it as model AFTKRT, running Fire OS 8 (Android Level 30). Listings that merely say “4K Max” can be ambiguous, so check the generation and stated 16GB capacity rather than relying on the headline alone. Amazon’s device identification guide lists the model identifiers and software details.

What the second-generation Max offers
Amazon’s specifications describe a 4K streaming stick with 16GB of total onboard storage, Wi-Fi 6E, and support for up to 4K Ultra HD at 60fps. Video formats include Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG; Dolby Atmos is supported on compatible content and equipment. The included Alexa Voice Remote Enhanced has power, volume and channel controls for compatible devices. Amazon also lists Bluetooth 5.2, Bluetooth Low Energy and Miracast support. See Amazon’s Fire TV Stick 4K Max specifications.
- Picture: 4K and HDR formats require a compatible TV, HDMI path, title and app; Dolby Vision and HDR10+ are not available on every display or stream.
- Sound: Dolby Atmos depends on the service, title, app and connected sound system supporting the format.
- Storage: 16GB is total capacity, not a promise that all 16GB will be free for apps. App-heavy users may still have to remove apps they no longer use.
- Network: Wi-Fi 6E adds a 6GHz band, but it requires a compatible router or mesh system. Without one, the stick can use older Wi-Fi bands. A 6E connection cannot compensate for weak signal, slow broadband or a congested streaming service.
- Wired connection: Ethernet requires an external adapter. The remote’s voice button is not the same as hands-free control through an Echo; far-field Alexa control requires a linked Echo device.
The Max is the better-equipped 2023 stick, but the available specifications do not establish a specific percentage speed improvement over other models. Do not treat a “faster” label as a measured promise about how quickly a particular app will open.

How it compares with newer Fire TV sticks
Amazon’s comparison documentation lists the 4K Select and 4K Plus as 2025 models alongside the 2023 4K Max and standard 4K stick. That makes the Max an older generation, despite its name. Amazon’s documented differentiators for the Max include 16GB storage and Wi-Fi 6E; those facts alone do not show that it is the better buy than either newer model. Check the current model specifications and checkout prices before deciding. Amazon’s Fire TV comparison table identifies the lineup.
| Model | Generation/year | Documented buying distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Fire TV Stick 4K Max | 2nd Gen, 2023 | 16GB storage and Wi-Fi 6E; deal report cited above observed $35 on May 21, 2026. |
| Fire TV Stick 4K Select | 2025 | Amazon lists the model, but the available sources do not establish a current price here. |
| Fire TV Stick 4K Plus | 2025 | Amazon lists the model, but the available sources do not establish a current price here. |
| Fire TV Stick 4K | 2023 | The documented standard 2023 model has 8GB storage and Wi-Fi 6, compared with the Max’s 16GB and Wi-Fi 6E. |
If a newer Select or Plus is only a few dollars more, compare its features and included remote rather than paying extra for the Max name. If the genuine second-generation Max is $35 and newer models cost substantially more, its additional storage and 6GHz Wi-Fi support make it a reasonable value for a compatible setup.

Is Fire TV the right interface for your household?
Fire TV is a natural fit for households that use Prime Video, Alexa, Echo, Ring or compatible Amazon smart-home devices. Its home screen also promotes Amazon content and can include advertising or sponsored placements. Engadget has described Fire TV as Amazon-centric and ad-heavy, with Roku and Google devices as cleaner alternatives for many viewers; its 2023 deal coverage also noted Fire TV’s appeal to Alexa and Prime Video users.
Streaming sticks provide access to apps; they do not make every service free. Netflix, Disney+, Max, Peacock and live-TV services generally require separate subscriptions, and app availability varies by country. If you mainly want a simple app grid rather than Amazon’s recommendations, Roku may suit you better. Google TV is a more natural ecosystem match for Google services and Google Home, but a specific current model and price are not established here. Apple TV 4K is worth considering for an Apple-centered household or someone seeking a premium device, not as a direct budget substitute; Apple lists its formats and features on its Apple TV 4K specifications page.
Who should buy it—and who should pass
It makes sense at $35 if
- You have a 4K TV and want an inexpensive upgrade from a sluggish built-in TV interface.
- You already use Amazon services or Alexa and are comfortable with Fire TV’s recommendations and ads.
- You want more app storage than the standard 2023 Fire TV Stick 4K provides.
- You have a Wi-Fi 6E router and a wireless environment where access to 6GHz may help.
- The listing is for the new second-generation 16GB model and newer Fire TV alternatives cost materially more.
Look elsewhere or spend less if
- Your TV is 1080p-only and you do not expect to upgrade; the 4K and HDR capabilities would not be used.
- You dislike Amazon’s content promotion or prefer a cleaner interface.
- You expect Wi-Fi 6E by itself to eliminate buffering.
- You want premium local-media playback or a more substantial gaming device; this stick is aimed at everyday streaming.
- A newer 4K Select or Plus is close in price, or the Max listing is used, renewed, imported or from an unfamiliar marketplace seller.
Check compatibility before checkout
- TV and HDMI: A compatible 4K TV and HDMI input are needed for 4K output; an older television may work at a lower resolution. HDR requires matching support from the display and the particular format.
- Power: If a TV’s USB port does not provide reliable power, use the included power adapter.
- Wireless: Confirm that your router supports 6GHz if Wi-Fi 6E is a reason for choosing the Max. Otherwise it will connect over a supported older band.
- Audio: For Atmos, the stream, app, TV or HDMI path, and soundbar or receiver must all support the relevant format.
- Seller and region: Confirm condition, seller, remote bundle, return terms and regional compatibility. Features, apps and availability can vary outside the U.S.
For a low-cost 4K upgrade, the deal is compelling only when the checkout price is actually $35 and the listing is the correct new model. If the sale has ended, compare the Max with Amazon’s newer sticks at their current prices rather than assuming the older model remains the best value.
