FINN’s 2022 Expansion Plan: U.S. Growth, German Subscriptions and What Changed

FINN’s 2022 growth plan included U.S. expansion and more German subscriptions. The company paused its U.S. business in 2024; later U.S. availability is not established by the sources here.

FINN’s 2022 plan called for expanding its car-subscription business in the United States while growing in Germany and investing in its technology. That plan is no longer a reliable guide to current availability: FINN announced in February 2024 that it would pause its U.S. business and focus on Germany and fleet electrification. The sources available here do not establish that U.S. subscriptions later resumed.

What FINN announced in 2022

In May 2022, FINN announced a $110 million Series B funding round led by Korelya Capital, Keen Venture Partners, Climb Ventures, Greentrail Capital and Waterfall Asset Management, with existing investors also participating. The company said it would use the funding to support U.S. expansion, strengthen its European position, grow its German subscriptions and develop its technology platform. FINN’s announcement named New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Washington, D.C., as part of its then-current U.S. footprint, and planned entry into California and Florida.

The expansion followed an earlier launch plan. In August 2021, FINN said its U.S. operation would launch in Pennsylvania and New Jersey in the fourth quarter of that year, with nearby northeastern states in view. It named finn of America Inc. and New York City and Ann Arbor, Michigan, as operational headquarters. FINN also described plans to adapt the service to local demand, including offering vehicle models such as pickups and incorporating tolls into the intended all-inclusive monthly rate. These were plans announced in 2021, not a description of the service today. FINN’s 2021 release

Growth targets were targets, not confirmed outcomes

FINN said Germany had 10,000 subscriptions at the time of its May 2022 announcement and planned to more than double that number during the year. Separately, TechCrunch reported that the company aimed for 30,000 subscriptions globally by year-end. Those are attributed company figures and ambitions; they do not establish that either target was reached on schedule. TechCrunch also described investment in teams in the U.S. and Germany and planned improvements to the customer-facing website and app and the business platform. TechCrunch’s May 2022 report

Is FINN still expanding in the U.S.?

FINN announced a U.S. pause on February 29, 2024. The company said it would prioritize sustainable growth in Germany and electrification of its fleet, while monitoring the U.S. market and examining conditions for a possible return. It also said it would continue supporting existing U.S. customers while closing out its portfolio. Its announcement stated: “Daher wird bis auf Weiteres das Geschäft in den USA pausiert” (“Therefore, business in the U.S. will be paused until further notice”). FINN’s February 2024 announcement

The materials available do not establish that FINN subsequently restarted U.S. subscriptions. Its June 2026 company announcement described FINN as a German car-subscription platform and reported nearly €100 million in Series D equity funding and a valuation above €1 billion. That is evidence of later company and European growth, not confirmation of U.S. service availability. FINN’s June 2026 announcement

What a FINN subscription includes in Germany

FINN’s German support information says customers choose a car and subscription length online. The monthly rate includes several vehicle-related costs and services, but customers should review the terms and separate fee catalogue rather than assume every expense is covered.

  • Vehicle tax, liability insurance and comprehensive insurance.
  • Contracted mileage, maintenance, inspections, wear parts and repairs.
  • A 24-hour damage hotline.
  • A replacement vehicle in specified accident-related breakdown situations.

FINN says it delivers and collects vehicles throughout Germany, with islands excluded, and also offers pickup or return at FINN stations. Transfer and return fees are specified separately in its fee catalogue. FINN’s German support article on the monthly rate

How to assess a car subscription against alternatives

A subscription’s monthly payment alone is not enough to compare it with leasing or rental. Check the total cost and practical terms that determine what you would actually pay and how you can use the car:

  • Total cost: Add the recurring monthly payment to any upfront, transfer, delivery, collection or return fees that apply.
  • Commitment and mileage: Compare the subscription length and contracted mileage with how long you need a car and how much you expect to drive.
  • Coverage: Check what insurance includes, what conditions or exclusions apply, and which maintenance and repair services are covered.
  • Handover: Confirm whether delivery or collection is available at your address, whether a station is more practical, and what fees apply.
  • Location: Verify that the service is currently offered where you live. FINN’s German terms do not establish availability in the U.S.

TechCrunch reported a six-month minimum term for FINN in 2022; that historical detail should not be treated as a current German term. The available information does not provide a current, like-for-like price comparison with leasing or rental, so it does not support a claim that subscribing is cheaper. TechCrunch’s 2022 report

What the 2025 Stellantis agreement shows

On April 30, 2025, Stellantis announced a framework agreement with FINN for that year and said FINN had initially ordered 5,300 vehicles across Stellantis brands. The release described subscriptions with terms from six to 24 months. This is an example of later fleet sourcing; it does not establish U.S. operations, current vehicle inventory or a consumer partnership program. Stellantis’s announcement
