It is not a brand-new Samsung supplier: the South Korean manufacturer already supplied metal support plates used with foldable displays. In a report published May 28, 2024, The Elec said Samsung had approved Fine M-Tec as a backup hinge supplier, while approval to supply the then-upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 6 had not yet been confirmed.
That distinction matters. Fine M-Tec was seeking to move from a lower-value display-support component into hinge modules and related assemblies. Backup approval can provide Samsung with resilience and bargaining power, but it does not prove a large, routine allocation to a named Galaxy model.

Who is Fine M-Tec?
Fine M-Tec was spun out of Fine Technix in 2022 to pursue additional component and module businesses. Fine Technix already had experience supplying Samsung-related metal plates, giving the new company an established manufacturing path into foldables rather than requiring it to start as an unknown entrant.
The group’s capabilities include metal stamping, etching and lamination. Fine M-Tec’s own website lists foldable-display parts and hinge modules, including external-hinge development and automated precision production: Fine M-Tec. That product positioning confirms a strategic hinge business, but it does not by itself establish a Samsung award, production share or current model allocation.

What is Fine M-Tec trying to supply?
“Hinge” can describe several different pieces of a foldable phone. A complete hinge module contains the moving mechanism and structural parts that connect the two phone halves. A display-support plate sits beneath the flexible panel and helps manage the display’s shape and stress; it is not automatically the hinge mechanism.
Fine M-Tec was already associated with metal support plates in Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip supply chain. Its expansion would take it into hinge modules or hinge-related assemblies, a higher-value part of the bill of materials. Galaxy Z Fold products have different requirements: from the Z Fold 3 onward, reported coverage said they used carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic support plates because metal could interfere with S Pen signaling. Qualification for a Flip component therefore would not automatically qualify a supplier for Fold products.

What approval did Samsung reportedly give?
The May 2024 report described Fine M-Tec as an approved backup supplier for Samsung foldable hinges. Backup status means Samsung can turn to the company for additional capacity or to cover a disruption at an incumbent supplier. It is not the same as receiving a regular, high-volume production allocation.
As of that report, Fine M-Tec had not yet been approved to supply hinges for the Galaxy Z Flip 6. The available reporting does not establish whether the company later became a routine supplier, what its current Samsung hinge share is, or whether any 2026 Galaxy model uses its hinges.

The investment and the business case
The Elec reported that Fine M-Tec invested about 30 billion won in hinge-production facilities. In the same May 2024 coverage, hinge activity represented only 0.1% of the company’s 2023 revenue of 380 billion won. Fine M-Tec reportedly hoped to raise hinge revenue to 10% of total revenue, but that was a management target, not a verified result.
The investment reflects an attempt to move up the value chain. Display-support plates can provide an entry point, while complete hinge modules demand more engineering, reliability testing, production yield and customer qualification. Spending on equipment does not guarantee that Samsung will activate the capacity.

Why Samsung wants more hinge suppliers
- Resilience: A backup source can help fill production gaps if an existing supplier has manufacturing or quality problems.
- Price leverage: Multiple qualified suppliers give Samsung more negotiating power. Huanli’s reported 10%–15% price advantage illustrates how aggressive that competition can become.
- Capacity flexibility: Foldable-phone demand and model mixes change, so Samsung can add or shift output without relying on one factory.
- Design capability: Thinner phones, different opening geometries and tighter display-stress limits require suppliers able to qualify new mechanisms.
For Fine M-Tec, the opportunity is substantial but conditional. A supplier can develop technology and pass a backup qualification yet receive little routine volume. Approval may apply to one hinge design or product family and not transfer to another Galaxy model.

Why hinge qualification is difficult
A foldable hinge must repeatedly open and close while keeping the two phone halves aligned. Its design affects thickness, crease behavior, dust protection, display stress and the mechanical feel of the device. Samsung also has to validate reliability, defect rates, production yield and the supplier’s ability to deliver at volume.
The available reports do not provide a Samsung cycle-life specification or a complete qualification checklist, so no precise durability number should be inferred. A prototype, a supplier approval and mass-production allocation are separate milestones.
Later competition puts Fine M-Tec’s move in context
Samsung’s sourcing became more competitive after the original Fine M-Tec report. The Elec reported that Huanli supplied more Galaxy Z Flip 6 hinges than KH Vatec and that KH Vatec’s 2024 foldable-hinge revenue fell 29% year over year to 175.9 billion won. Those are historical 2024 figures reported in March 2025; they show changing supplier dynamics, not proof that Fine M-Tec won a comparable contract.

- A dated filing or supplier report naming Fine M-Tec for a specific Galaxy model.
- Evidence that Samsung moved the company from backup status to regular mass-production allocation.
- Reported hinge revenue and customer concentration in Fine M-Tec’s filings, rather than the earlier 10% target.
- Whether Fine M-Tec qualifies products for the Galaxy Z Fold line as well as the Flip line.
- Changes in supplier pricing, yields and shares as Korean and Chinese hinge makers compete.
The Bottom Line
Fine M-Tec’s story is best understood as vertical expansion, not a sudden arrival by a company outside Samsung’s ecosystem. It already supplied foldable-display support parts and reportedly gained backup-supplier approval for hinges in 2024. The meaningful commercial question remains whether Samsung converts that qualification into sustained, model-specific production volume.
