What Fido’s current public offer does—and doesn’t—tell you
Fido’s plans page advertises plan-only Talk & Text plans from $25 per month after the Automatic Payments Discount. Phone financing is separate, and Fido says a $40 Device Setup Charge may apply. These details describe the advertised starting point, not the terms of every plan or an offer available to every customer. Fido’s plans page is live and can change.
Fido also promotes Canada-wide 5G and says speeds can reach up to 1 Gbps. That is Fido’s claim, not an independent speed test or a guarantee of the speed a customer will receive. The public information cited here does not establish a dated old-versus-new plan lineup, so it cannot support a reliable comparison of price per gigabyte or a conclusion that the new plans are worse value. Fido’s plans page did not expose its detailed plan table in the information available for this comparison.
How to compare an exclusive offer with your current plan
Compare the exact offers, not just the promotional price or the word “exclusive.” If the older offer’s dated terms are unavailable, treat the value comparison as unproven rather than assuming that a lower headline price means a better deal—or that a new plan is worse.

- Write down the recurring service price. Record the monthly price after recurring discounts, including whether the Automatic Payments Discount is required. Keep taxes, temporary credits, one-time charges, optional add-ons, and device payments separate.
- Check the data allowance and what happens when it runs out. Compare included high-speed data and any bonus data, along with the terms for use after the allowance. - Match the coverage and roaming geography. Check whether each offer covers Canada only or includes other destinations, and compare calling and texting terms as well as data. Fido says it offers travel passes for over 180 destinations. Its overview describes 30-day passes starting at $3 per day, while its add-ons page presents passes starting at $25 for three days. - Include hotspot and other features in the comparison. Fido’s add-ons page lists hotspot access for $5 per month. If one plan includes hotspot and another charges separately, account for that cost only if you need the feature. Fido’s add-ons page.
- Confirm who qualifies and how long the price lasts. Check whether the offer is limited to new customers, selected customers, or a particular account, and whether credits expire. The $25 starting price is after an automatic-payment discount; the available information does not establish the eligibility or promotional duration of a particular exclusive offer.
- Keep phone financing separate. Compare service charges independently from any device balance or financing obligation. A lower plan price does not by itself tell you the cost of a financed phone.
Optional add-ons can change the monthly total
Fido’s add-ons page lists mobile-hotspot access at $5 per month and device protection from $9.99 per month, in addition to the travel-pass offers described above. These are separate from the advertised plan price, and Fido says offers can change without notice. Check the current terms before relying on a listed price. Fido’s add-ons page.
For a useful like-for-like comparison, calculate the recurring monthly cost for the features you actually use, then compare it with the same features on the other offer. Do not treat optional protection or roaming as a cost of the plan if you would not buy it.

Changing plans and the CRTC fee rule
The CRTC announced on March 12, 2026 that it was eliminating extra fees to activate, change, or cancel cellphone and internet plans. Telecom Regulatory Policy 2026-43 took effect June 12, 2026. The rule has exceptions, including reasonable physical-installation fees and additional products or services a customer explicitly chooses. The evidence available here establishes Fido’s advertised starting price and some separately priced features, but not a dated prior-plan baseline or the detailed current plan terms needed for a fair comparison. Without both sets of terms, the claim that Fido’s new plans deliver worse value cannot be confirmed. A customer considering a specific offer should compare its written terms with the prior offer on price, data, geography, features, eligibility, and discount duration before deciding whether to switch.
