What changed after April
A July 13, 2026 comparison by iPhone in Canada reported that the listed bring-your-own-device plans at all three brands were each $5 more than in June. Its July snapshot listed Fido and Virgin Plus at $45/20GB, $50/60GB, and $55/60GB Canada-US-Mexico. It listed Koodo at $45/20GB, $50/60GB, $55/60GB Canada-US-Mexico, and $60/100GB. These are July-reported offers, not verified prices for October. See the July comparison.

How to decide whether a plan still fits
A lower headline price or larger data allowance does not automatically make a plan the better choice. Compare the elements that affect your actual bill and use:
- Recurring cost: Compare the monthly price after discounts and check how to keep each discount. The April Fido figure, for example, included a $5 monthly autopay discount.
- Data: Match the allowance to your typical use, including any months when you rely on mobile data more heavily.
- Roaming: Treat Canada-US-Mexico access separately from domestic data. Confirm which countries are covered, how long access lasts, and any usage limits or restrictions; Fido’s April $49 offer was described as covering those countries for 12 months.
- Features and network: Check speed details, hotspot access, calling and texting, and perks you actually use. The April report identified 5G on Fido’s listed plans, but an offer’s label alone does not tell you whether its coverage or features suit your situation.
- Eligibility: Confirm that the offer applies to your province, account, and customer status. A public offer comparison does not establish that an existing customer will receive the same deal.
Check your bill and switching terms before acting
- Open your carrier account and review your current plan, bill, and any price-change notice. A new-market offer does not by itself show what happens to your existing account.
- Compare current offers available to you, using the recurring price after discounts and the conditions attached to those discounts.
- Check the plan details for data, roaming countries and duration, usage restrictions, speeds, hotspot, and other included features.
- Before switching, review applicable account terms and any device financing or subsidy balance.
CRTC Telecom Regulatory Policy 2026-43 says new protections took effect June 12, 2026. Among other provisions, it prohibits specified activation and plan-modification fees and says providers must not charge an early cancellation fee for a fixed-term contract without a subsidized device. The Wireless Code and Internet Code are intended to help consumers understand contracts, avoid bill shock, and switch providers. These rules do not establish that every cost associated with a device or account disappears; check financing, subsidies, and account-specific terms. Read the CRTC policy.
