Pakistan’s Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) extended the general deadline for filing Tax Year 2024 income-tax returns from September 30 to October 14, 2024. That deadline has passed. A later FBR measure allowed a specific group of former manual filers until November 30, 2025; it was not another extension for all taxpayers.
What was the Tax Year 2024 income-tax return deadline?
For people covered by the general extension, the last date was October 14, 2024, replacing the September 30, 2024 deadline. FBR announced the extension on September 30, 2024, and its Circular No. 02 of 2024-25 IR-Operations formally set out the change under section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001.
FBR said it acted following requests from trade bodies, tax-bar associations and the general public. The announcement is also recorded in FBR’s 2024 press-release archive.
Was there another extension in 2025?
Yes, but it was a separate, limited accommodation—not a new general deadline. In November 2025, FBR extended the Tax Year 2024 filing date to November 30, 2025 for a specific group of former manual filers. FBR’s Circular No. 6 of 2025-26 IR-Operations also directed tax offices to provide those filers with free registration and filing assistance.

FBR said manual returns had been discontinued from Tax Year 2024 as it moved to online submission. The related announcement for former manual filers describes the assistance available. It does not establish that other taxpayers received the November 2025 date.
What should taxpayers do now?
Both dates are historical and have passed. If you need to file a current return or check your filing status, use FBR’s current notices and official guidance; the Tax Year 2024 extensions do not establish today’s deadline or an individual taxpayer’s obligations.

FBR also issued a separate announcement about Active Taxpayer List (ATL) updates for Tax Year 2024 returns. It described immediate inclusion for returns filed by the due date or an extension, and possible inclusion of late filers after the surcharge specified in section 182A.
