Some 2025-era phones are now available for less, but the biggest advertised savings often depend on a trade-in, a new line, or months of carrier bill credits. The clearest documented unlocked discount is a temporary $100 reduction on Samsung’s Galaxy S25: a recent U.S. price snapshot showed the 128GB model at $699.99 instead of $799.99, and the 256GB model at $799.99 instead of $899.99. Samsung pages have also shown full list prices, so check the price and terms at checkout rather than treating the cut as permanent.
That makes this a promising time to shop, not an automatic reason to buy. Compare the total cost and remaining software support with a current-generation phone, and distinguish an unlocked cash price from a carrier offer that may cost you flexibility.
What counts as a real phone discount?
A discount is useful only when you can actually get it under terms that suit you. For this guide, an unlocked price cut means a lower price for the phone itself, without requiring a carrier plan or trade-in. A carrier promotion can still be a good deal, but its value depends on the required service, eligibility, and how long you must stay to receive all the credits.
- Under $50 off: usually an ordinary sale, not a reason by itself to replace a working phone.
- $100–$200 off: meaningful on a flagship if the price is for the storage tier you want.
- $200–$400 off: a major reduction when it applies to an unlocked, new device.
- More than $400 off: check closely for trade-in, bill-credit, new-line, clearance, or refurbished conditions before comparing it with an unlocked price.
The evidence available for current deals is uneven: Samsung has published specific unlocked prices, while deal roundups and carrier marketplaces mix offer types and conditions. Those listings can help identify candidates, but they do not establish a universal cash price for every buyer.

The clearest unlocked deal: Samsung Galaxy S25
Samsung’s U.S. listings show the unlocked Galaxy S25 at $799.99 for 128GB and $899.99 for 256GB in some snapshots. Other recent snapshots showed those configurations at $699.99 and $799.99, respectively—a $100 reduction at each storage tier. Because the same official pages have displayed different prices, treat the lower figures as a volatile promotion, not a new permanent price. Check the 128GB listing and 256GB listing before buying.
The S25 is the most straightforward value case in the available pricing evidence: the cited discount is an unlocked price reduction, rather than a carrier-credit headline. It is also the compact Android pick among the phones considered here. Samsung’s listing says the box includes a USB-C data cable but not a charger plug, so factor in a compatible charger if you need one. Trade-in savings are separate; their value depends on the device you submit and its condition, so do not add a maximum advertised trade-in amount to the sale price unless you qualify.
Other 2025-era phones worth checking
Several phones are plausible bargains, but the available deal listings do not establish a consistent, verified unlocked price for each one. Treat them as shopping candidates and confirm the exact model, storage, seller, condition, and checkout total.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

Google Pixel 9 family
Deal roundups have reported substantial advertised reductions for the Pixel 9, and retailer clearance listings include Pixel phones. That does not establish a single cash price or prove that every Pixel 9 variant has the same deal. The Pixel 9 family also spans models released in 2024 and 2025, so it is inaccurate to label every Pixel 9 a 2025 launch. The Pixel 9 or a discounted Pixel 9 Pro/Pro XL may suit camera-focused buyers if the exact unlocked price is well below a current-generation alternative; compare storage and remaining support before deciding.

OnePlus 13
Best Buy’s clearance inventory has included the OnePlus 13, but stock, price, condition, and seller can vary. It is a performance-focused candidate, particularly for buyers who value fast hardware and charging, but a clearance listing is not proof of a broadly available unlocked price. Verify the exact configuration and return terms, and compare the discount with the current street price of newer phones.
iPhone 16 and iPhone 16e
The iPhone 16 launched in 2024, not 2025. It remains a previous-generation iPhone option, and deal roundups have reported large advertised reductions, but those prices may reflect carrier or retailer conditions rather than an unlocked cash offer. The iPhone 16e also appears in clearance inventory. iPhone buyers should compare the actual unlocked price with any offer that requires financing or a new line, and consider whether keeping an existing Apple Watch or other Apple devices makes staying with iOS especially valuable.

Motorola Razr 2025 and Razr Ultra 2025
Retailer clearance listings have included the Razr Ultra 2025, while carrier marketplaces show the Razr 2025 among available Android phones. These are worth considering if a foldable is the feature you want, but a low headline price alone cannot establish the long-term value of a foldable. Before purchase, inspect warranty coverage, repair costs, return terms, and the exact device condition; the available pricing evidence does not establish a verified unlocked discount for either model.
Galaxy S25 Ultra and S25 Edge
These models may appear in promotions or clearance inventory, but the specific official unlocked price reductions documented here are for the S25 128GB and 256GB. Do not assume the same discount applies to the Ultra, Edge, or another storage tier. Check the configuration-specific listing and compare its price with the standard S25 before paying extra for a larger display or different camera hardware.
Why a “free” carrier phone can cost more
Carrier marketplaces from AT&T and T-Mobile show promotional pricing for phones that include 2025-era models. Such offers may require an installment plan, an eligible service plan, a trade-in, a new line, or bill credits. A phone advertised at no charge may still require you to pay taxes on its retail value and remain eligible for credits over a 24- or 36-month period. The exact offer varies by account and location.

Before comparing a carrier offer with an unlocked price, calculate the full commitment: device payments after credits, any added plan cost, taxes and fees, and the credits you would lose if you leave early. If you already have the qualifying plan and would keep it anyway, a carrier deal may be excellent. If a new line or more expensive plan is required, the handset discount may be offset by service costs.
For current offer terms, check AT&T’s phone marketplace or T-Mobile’s Android listings. Retailer prices can also vary by ZIP code, color, storage, membership, stock, and seller; Best Buy’s clearance and price-drop pages are starting points, not guarantees of local availability or condition.

Compare actual street prices, not an older phone’s sale price against a newer phone’s launch price. A 2026 model may offer a newer processor or modem, improved cameras or battery efficiency, newer AI features, more remaining software support, and higher resale value. A discounted prior-generation flagship can counter with lower cost, mature software, proven camera performance, and premium hardware at a midrange price.

The right question is whether the newer phone’s specific improvements justify the price gap for your use. If you keep phones for years, give extra weight to remaining security-update support: an older phone has already used part of its update window. Exact support periods should be checked against the manufacturer’s current policy for the model rather than inferred from its launch date.
Discount timing is not a promise of further savings. Smartphone deals often appear late in a refresh cycle, and coverage has noted Galaxy S25 price pressure before its successor; prices can still change in either direction as stock and promotions shift. See Tom’s Guide’s S25 timing coverage and TechRadar’s deal-cycle guide for context, not a guarantee that waiting will save money.
Pick by the job the phone needs to do
- Best documented unlocked value: Galaxy S25, if Samsung’s $100 promotional reduction is still available for the storage tier you want.
- Best camera bargain candidate: Pixel 9 Pro or Pro XL, if an unlocked price puts it meaningfully below a newer flagship and its support runway suits your ownership horizon.
- Best performance bargain candidate: OnePlus 13, when a clearance price is available from a seller with acceptable warranty and return terms.
- Best iPhone value candidate: iPhone 16 or 16e, if the price is truly unlocked or the carrier terms fit a plan you already intend to keep.
- Best foldable bargain candidate: Razr 2025, after checking warranty, repair exposure, and condition rather than choosing on discount alone.
- Best compact Android option: Galaxy S25, based on its smaller-form-factor positioning and documented unlocked pricing.
These are conditional picks, not a claim that one model is the best buy at every price. A much larger discount on a phone you do not want—or on storage too small for your needs—is not better value.
Pre-checkout checklist
- Confirm the device and seller: Is it new, open-box, refurbished, or renewed? Is the seller the manufacturer or an authorized retailer, and what warranty and return window apply?
- Verify lock status and compatibility: Is the exact phone unlocked, or locked to a carrier? Check support for your carrier’s network and the 5G bands you need.
- Read the offer conditions: Is the price before or after trade-in? Does it require a new line, port-in, financing, membership, or a particular service plan?
- Calculate the total, not the headline: Add device payments, taxes, fees, any added service cost, and the effect of losing bill credits if you cancel early. Check whether tax is calculated on the full retail value.
- Check storage and box contents: Compare the discounted tier with the space you need, and confirm whether a charger is included.
- Inspect refurbished or open-box terms: Look for battery-health guarantees, cosmetic grading, included accessories, genuine-part information, prior carrier-lock status, and a workable return policy.
- Compare support runway: Confirm the manufacturer’s current security-update commitment for the specific model and weigh the remaining period against how long you expect to keep it.
Price sources and offer checks
Samsung’s official product pages are the strongest source for the S25 unlocked figures cited above. For other phones, the available evidence points to deal candidates rather than a settled, comparable unlocked price: Wirefly’s deal roundup combines retailer and carrier offers, and Google’s phone offers hub can help locate current Pixel offers. Confirm the exact terms with the seller before ordering.
