FactSet was a professional financial data, analytics, and workflow platform—not a consumer subscription with a universal advertised price. For historical context, its fiscal year ended August 31, 2021; later figures below are identified separately.
What FactSet offered in FY2021
FactSet grouped its business into Research & Advisory, Analytics & Trading, and Content & Technology Solutions (CTS). Its audiences included buy-side and sell-side firms, wealth managers, hedge funds, corporations, and channel partners. The platform combined workstations and applications with proprietary content, data feeds, APIs, portfolio services, and other workflow tools. These were professional subscriptions and services rather than ordinary consumer products. FactSet’s FY2021 Form 10-K describes these business lines and offerings.

FactSet said it aimed to be “the trusted partner of choice for clients, to anticipate their needs and provide them with the most innovative solutions to make them more efficient.” That is the company’s stated ambition in the FY2021 filing, not an independent assessment of performance.
FactSet pricing in 2021: what is known
The reviewed official filings do not state a standard 2021 list price, per-seat rate, or package price. FactSet reported that revenue growth benefited from its annual price increase. In its next quarterly filing, it also said increased sales to existing clients, including price increases, contributed to revenue growth. Neither disclosure identifies the amount of an increase or what any particular customer paid. See the FY2021 Form 10-K and the quarterly filing for the period ended November 30, 2021.

FactSet defines annual subscription value (ASV) as forward-looking revenue over the following 12 months from subscription services supplied to clients, excluding professional service fees. ASV is a company reporting measure, not a published customer quote or a unit price.
Anyone assessing a current or historical proposal should request a quote tied to the exact scope. To make competing proposals meaningfully comparable, confirm the users, content, workflow modules, data access, geography, integrations, services, and contract terms included. These are practical procurement questions; the cited filings do not establish them as a fixed FactSet pricing formula.
What the 2021 customer evidence says—and does not say
FactSet reported 160,932 professionals using its service as of August 31, 2021, a 14.0% increase over the preceding twelve months. For the year ended that date, it reported annual ASV retention greater than 95% and client-count retention of approximately 91.0%. These are company-reported measures of subscription value and client continuity. They are not independent satisfaction ratings, review excerpts, or proof that every customer was satisfied. The figures appear in the FY2021 Form 10-K.
A subsequent filing, covering the quarter ended November 30, 2021, reported 162,161 professionals using FactSet and annual retention above 95% by ASV and approximately 91.7% by client count. These are later company disclosures, not a review sample or a substitute for the fiscal-year figures. See the quarterly filing.

That is company-reported industry recognition; it should not be read as a customer-review score. The release does not establish what a representative set of users said about price, usability, or service quality. Read FactSet’s release.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to judge whether FactSet is worth the cost
The available 2021 evidence can establish the platform’s professional scope, company-reported usage and retention, and the existence of price increases. It cannot establish a universal price or independently answer whether the service was worth that price for a particular buyer. Value depends on the buyer’s workflows and the precise package quoted.
When evaluating a proposal, compare FactSet with alternatives on the same scope rather than on a headline price alone:
- Workflow and asset-class coverage: Does the offering support the teams and investment or corporate processes that need it?
- Data, research, and analytics: Are the specific content and analytical capabilities required included?
- Integrations and deployment: Do the feeds, APIs, and integration options fit the organization’s systems?
- Role and organization fit: Which users need access, and what services or tools do their roles require?
- Total contract cost: Request comparable written quotes with scope, services, and terms made explicit.
FactSet’s FY2021 filing emphasizes open, flexible integrations, but it does not provide comparable competitor prices or establish a 2021 winner. Treat any conclusion about value as specific to the organization and proposal being evaluated.
