No. As of October 8, 2026, there is no evidence that the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has issued a redesigned Rs1,000 note. The images circulated online in 2025 were described as fake by the SBP’s chief spokesperson; proposed banknote designs discussed in 2026 remain a separate matter from an official issue.
What did SBP say about the viral Rs1,000 note?
In June 2025, social-media posts claimed that SBP had issued a “brand new” Rs1,000 note with a modern design and updated security and printing technology. Geo Fact Check reported that SBP Chief Spokesperson Noor Ahmed called the claim fake, saying, “This is fake news.” Geo also said it found no announcement or notification for a new design on SBP’s website at the time. Are redesigned Pakistani banknotes being considered?
Yes. That process does not mean new notes have already been issued. APP reported that the federal cabinet reviewed proposed banknote designs on January 14, 2026, and formed a committee for further deliberation. In August 2026, Geo reported that SBP Deputy Governor Dr Inayat Hussain told a Senate committee that new notes would enter the market after proposed changes were finalized. That describes a future step, not an announcement that a redesigned Rs1,000 note is already in circulation. Geo News
When was the current Rs1,000 note issued?

How can you assess claims about a new note?
- Look for an SBP announcement confirming the issue, rather than relying on an image or social-media caption.
- Distinguish a proposed design or committee review from a note officially issued and placed into circulation.
- Treat mockups as unverified unless an official announcement confirms them. The fact-checks above found the viral visuals did not represent genuine legal tender.
SBP’s press-release listing reviewed for this article included a September 17, 2026 clarification about the Rs10 banknote, but no announcement of a new Rs1,000 note. A missing listing entry alone would not prove that no note exists; the spokesperson’s reported denial and subsequent coverage of the pending redesign process provide stronger context.
