To receive money, you had to submit a timely, properly completed claim by August 25, 2023, and have it approved. If you filed, check your individual status through the official settlement administrator at facebookuserprivacysettlement.com. If you did not file by the deadline, you cannot submit a new claim now.
First, identify which situation applies to you
| Your situation | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| You did not file a claim by August 25, 2023 | The administrator says the deadline has passed and people who did not file will not receive a payment. | You cannot file a new claim now. |
| You filed a claim | Filing alone does not establish that your claim was approved or that a payment is due. | Use the administrator’s official website and claimant contact options to check your individual status. |
How to check a claim you already filed
Go to the official settlement administrator’s website: https://www.facebookuserprivacysettlement.com/. The public site provides settlement updates and claimant contact options. Use those official channels to ask whether your claim was approved, whether a payment applies to you, and what payment method or timing is recorded for your claim.
The public notices do not establish any particular claimant’s approval, amount, payment method, or eligibility for a later distribution. The administrator’s update dated May 15, 2026, said a second distribution was expected to begin in June 2026 and take approximately four weeks; it does not confirm an individual payment or current status. Check the administrator’s website for the latest information.
Why $400 is not a guaranteed check
The settlement’s headline amount does not mean every claimant receives $400. The official settlement notice describes a net fund allocated among authorized claimants after deductions, rather than a uniform award. The amount for any particular person cannot be worked out from the general notices alone.

Who was covered—and why Facebook use alone is not enough
The settlement class covered people who used Facebook in the United States from May 24, 2007, through December 22, 2022, inclusive. Those dates describe the class period, but being a Facebook user during that span did not automatically qualify someone for a payment: the administrator says a timely, properly completed and approved claim was required. The class action is In re: Facebook, Inc. Consumer Privacy User Profile Litigation, Case No. 3:18-md-02843-VC, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. The administrator identifies Meta Platforms, Inc. as formerly Facebook, Inc.; Meta denies violating any law.

The administrator’s website displays a fraud alert concerning requests for sensitive information or payment. Do not give money or sensitive information to an unsolicited sender who claims it is needed to release settlement funds. Verify messages and claimant questions through the official administrator site, rather than relying on unsolicited links or contact details.
