You can use Facebook to recommend relevant products or services and earn a commission when someone follows a tracked link and completes a qualifying action, such as making a purchase. That is affiliate marketing—not guaranteed or reliably passive income. The practical work is choosing useful offers, creating content people trust, disclosing your financial relationship, and checking whether your links lead to results.
How Facebook affiliate marketing works
An affiliate marketer shares a tracked link to a retailer or other business. If someone clicks the link and completes an action that qualifies under that program’s terms, the creator may receive a commission. The FTC uses the example of an affiliate marketer earning a commission when readers click links and buy from a retailer. The commission, qualifying action, and tracking arrangements depend on the specific program; do not assume a click alone earns money. FTC, Endorsement Guides: What People Are Asking
Facebook is the place where you publish the recommendation and reach an audience. The affiliate program or merchant supplies the offer and tracking arrangement. Your content may be a post, image, video, or other format, but the recommendation should be relevant and the commercial relationship clear wherever you share it.

Meta’s Creator Affiliate Program
Meta’s Creator Affiliate Program landing page says creators can incorporate affiliate links into their content. The page does not establish terms such as eligibility, supported countries, available products, commissions, cookies, enrollment steps, or whether access is currently open to you. Treat it as a possible route to investigate, not a promise that you can join or earn. Check the current official terms directly before planning around it: Meta Creator Affiliate Program.

Third-party affiliate links
Affiliate links from a merchant or network are another general route, but the materials available here do not verify any particular provider or its rates, tracking period, payout threshold, or signup process. Review the specific program’s current terms before sharing links. Confirm what action earns a commission, how referrals are tracked, what products are eligible, and what conditions can cancel or limit a commission.
Build recommendations around audience needs
Start with the problems, interests, or decisions your Facebook audience already discusses. Choose an offer only when it fits that context and you can explain why it may be useful. A post that simply drops a link gives readers little basis for deciding whether the product is right for them.

- Pick a focused subject. Define the kinds of questions or needs your content will address, rather than promoting unrelated offers.
- Assess the offer. Read its terms and product information, and make sure your description is accurate. Do not claim to have used or tested something unless you actually have.
- Give readers decision-useful context. Explain what the offer does, who might find it useful, and any material limitations you know. Keep the recommendation understandable even if a reader does not click.
- Place the tracked link with the recommendation. Keep the link and the explanation close enough that readers can see what it relates to.
- Disclose the commission relationship clearly. Put a plain-language disclosure by the endorsement or link, not somewhere a reader must search for it.
Disclose commissions clearly on Facebook content
For US audiences, FTC guidance says a material connection such as a commission should be disclosed clearly and conspicuously near the recommendation. If the recommendation and link are separated, readers may miss the connection. The FTC gives this example: “I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post.” It also warns that “affiliate link” by itself may not tell people that the poster gets paid. FTC staff’s November 2019 Disclosures 101 for Social Media Influencers says disclosures should be hard to miss and placed with the endorsement itself. A disclosure may be overlooked if it appears only on an About page, at the end of a post or video, or behind a “more” click. For video, the staff guidance recommends making the disclosure in the video rather than relying only on its description. It also cautions against assuming a platform’s built-in disclosure tool is sufficient by itself. FTC, Disclosures 101 for Social Media Influencers

- Use direct wording that explains the relationship, such as the FTC’s commission example.
- Put the disclosure where people encounter the endorsement, in a form they can readily notice and understand.
- For video, include a clear disclosure in the video itself as well as considering the accompanying text.
- Do not rely solely on a platform label, profile text, or a disclosure hidden after a click.
Meta’s indexed help guidance about affiliate product links and its paid partnership label is specifically about Instagram. The FTC materials cited here concern US federal guidance, not a universal summary of disclosure law. The FTC says the Endorsement Guides themselves do not have the force of law, although practices inconsistent with them may lead to Section 5 enforcement allegations. Creators elsewhere should check the rules that apply in their jurisdiction. FTC FAQ

Affiliate income depends on more than posting a link: people must encounter the content, consider the offer, and complete whatever action the program counts. No expected earnings, conversion rates, or evidence that Facebook affiliate income is passive are established by the sources cited here. Avoid forecasts based on someone else’s results or on an assumed commission rate.
Use whatever reporting the specific affiliate program provides to review link activity and qualifying actions. Compare content and offers over time, and focus on whether the recommendations are useful and the terms are clear. Do not infer a commission from a click unless the program reports a qualifying action. If the program’s reporting or terms are unclear, ask the provider rather than guessing how a referral is credited.

What “passive income” leaves out
A Facebook post can continue to be seen after publication, but that does not make its income passive or dependable. You still need to maintain accurate recommendations, keep disclosures visible, understand changing program terms, and create content that gives people a reason to trust the link. The title’s passive-income idea is best treated as an aspiration, not an expected outcome or guarantee.
