It covers specified PW1500G and PW1900G engine modules, not PW1100G engines. The FAA estimates $4,437,600 for inspections and bushing replacements across the estimated affected U.S. fleet; possible rotor-replacement costs are not quantified. As of October 8, 2026, the action is still a proposal, not a final airworthiness directive.
What the FAA proposal covers
The FAA published a notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) on September 17, 2026, in Federal Register 91 FR 58823. It is docket FAA-2026-8816, project AD-2026-00605-E, and comments are due October 19, 2026. The proposed requirements would apply to specified PW1500G and PW1900G engine variants with high-pressure-compressor (HPC) modules bearing serial numbers listed in Pratt & Whitney alert service bulletins dated July 13, 2026. The notice also excludes engines with certain earlier service bulletins incorporated.
The listed PW1500G models are PW1519G, PW1521G, PW1521GA, PW1521G-3, PW1524G, PW1524G-3, PW1525G and PW1525G-3. The listed PW1900G models are PW1919G, PW1919G-RC, PW1921G, PW1921G-RC, PW1922G, PW1923G and PW1923G-A. An engine model alone does not establish whether it is affected; the proposal also turns on the HPC module serial number and the stated exclusions.
Why the FAA is proposing inspections
The FAA says it received six reports of clashing on either the second- or third-stage HPC rotor. Its proposed safety rationale links wear in the high-pressure-compressor variable-stator-vane (VSV) bushing set to a vane rocking forward. The vane’s inner locating ring can then contact the rear rim of a compressor rotor. The agency warns that the contact could lead to rotor failure and an uncontained part release, with resulting engine or airplane damage and possible loss of airplane control.

What operators would have to do
Inspect the HPC rotor rear rims
The proposal would require an initial borescope inspection of the first-, second- and third-stage HPC rotor rear-rim surfaces. The deadline would be before 8,000 flight hours or within 1,000 flight hours after the AD effective date, whichever occurs later. After that inspection, repeat inspections would be required at intervals no greater than 1,000 flight hours.
If an inspection finds the specified circumferential wear, scratching or contact damage, the affected rotor would have to be removed and replaced before further flight.

Replace the VSV bushing set
At the next HPC front-case split-flange separation after the proposed AD’s effective date, the operator would replace the HPC VSV bushing set. Once that replacement is completed, the recurring inspection requirement would end.
The proposal incorporates two Pratt & Whitney alert service bulletins, both dated July 13, 2026, for the inspection procedures and affected module serial numbers. The Federal Register notice says the materials are available through Pratt & Whitney and for viewing at the FAA. It does not identify or approve a retail borescope model; the incorporated service bulletins govern the work.

What the FAA’s cost estimate does—and does not—include
The FAA estimates that 215 affected engines are installed on U.S.-registered airplanes. Its aggregate estimates for the proposed work are:
| Work | FAA estimate |
|---|---|
| Specified borescope inspections | $54,825 aggregate |
| HPC VSV bushing-set replacement | $4,382,775 aggregate |
| Inspection and bushing estimates combined | $4,437,600, calculated by adding the two FAA estimates; not separately stated by the FAA |
The $4,437,600 sum is not a complete estimate of every possible compliance cost. The FAA says it cannot determine how many engines might need rotor replacement based on inspection findings, so that condition-based work is not included in the quantified total. The notice therefore does not support attributing a cost above $150 million to this proposal.

Why this is not the separate PW1100G rule
A different FAA action concerns certain IAE PW1100G and PW1400G engines and powdered-metal anomalies. The U.S. Department of Transportation’s summary of that separate rule describes ultrasonic inspections and accelerated part replacement. That action has a different engine scope and safety issue from the 2026 proposal, which concerns specified PW1500G/PW1900G modules and HPC vane-bushing wear and contact.
