Meta careers span artificial intelligence, software, infrastructure, data centers, product, design, research, business operations and skilled-trade pathways. The mix of open roles, locations, work arrangements and qualifications changes frequently, so the reliable way to search is through Meta’s official careers site and the individual requisition—not an old job-board post or an unsolicited recruiter message.
This guide shows how to choose a career track, verify a current opening, assess your fit, prepare an application and interview, and distinguish direct Meta employment from contractor or workforce-development opportunities.

Which career paths are available at Meta?
Meta is not an engineering-only employer. Its careers site organizes opportunities by technology, team and location, but a category is not a promise that jobs are open everywhere. Use the live search results for current availability.
Artificial intelligence and machine learning
Meta’s AI careers material highlights work on AI products, machine-learning systems, research and the infrastructure required to run compute-intensive models. Relevant roles can include machine-learning engineering, applied science, data science, research engineering and technical program management. AI interest alone is not a qualification: each posting defines the required programming, mathematical, research or product experience.

Start with the AI careers area and then read the complete requisition.
Software, production and data engineering
- Software engineering for consumer products, internal platforms and developer systems.
- Production engineering and site reliability, including service health, automation and incident response.
- Data engineering, analytics infrastructure and large-scale data platforms.
- Technical program management coordinating complex engineering work.
Infrastructure, privacy, security and data centers
Meta’s infrastructure careers page describes work involving compute, data centers, privacy, production engineering, systems security and product infrastructure. Depending on the team, jobs may involve networks, storage, hardware, custom silicon, physical facilities, server operations, privacy engineering or enterprise systems.
Product, design and research
- Product management, product strategy and execution.
- User-experience, interaction and visual design.
- User research, quantitative research and social science.
- AI and hardware research, including work connected with Reality Labs.
- Augmented and virtual reality, Meta Quest and wearable devices.
Meta’s location pages also group openings under product management, design and user experience, research, AI, AR/VR, Meta Quest, advertising technology and data and analytics. Category labels can change, so treat the individual posting as authoritative.
Business and corporate functions
Nontechnical opportunities may include sales, marketing, advertising partnerships, recruiting, human resources, finance, accounting, legal, policy, communications, content integrity, customer operations, workplace services, facilities, physical security, procurement and supply chain. The same function may have different qualifications by region and level.

Skilled-trade and workforce-development routes
Data-center expansion can support electricians, HVAC specialists, server and network technicians, engineers and construction trades. Meta says some of these opportunities are created through contractors, suppliers, construction firms or community partners rather than direct corporate employment. Read the employer name and application instructions carefully; a job at a construction or facilities company is not automatically a Meta employee role. See Meta’s explanation of data-center workforce effects at about.fb.com.
Meta announced America’s Workforce Academy on June 8, 2026. Its no-cost pilot locations are in Louisiana, Ohio, Indiana and Texas, with training tied to industry-recognized credentials such as NCCER and an America’s Workforce Certificate. This is a separate workforce-development pathway, not a standard vacancy on the corporate careers portal.
How to find current Meta job openings
- Begin at the official domain. Go to metacareers.com, rather than relying on a reposted listing.
- Search in more than one way. Use a job title or keyword, then refine by technology or team, location, job type and seniority when those filters are available.
- Open the full requisition. Check responsibilities, required and preferred qualifications, employment type, work location, remote or hybrid language, travel, work authorization and any closing date.
- Record the details. Save the requisition ID and exact title. Listings can change or disappear, and a search result is not proof that an application is still active.
- Apply through the official page. The final application should resolve to an official Meta domain. Do not pay a recruiter, training provider or “application service” to obtain access.
- Monitor the candidate portal and email. Keep copies of your submitted résumé and application answers so you can prepare consistently if contacted.
A social-media post, recruiter message or third-party job-board entry may be outdated. Verify that it leads to a live Meta requisition before sharing personal information. Treat requests for money, banking details or identity documents through unusual channels as potential fraud.

What qualifications does Meta look for?
There is no universal “Meta requirements” list. Function, level and location control. Use the following as evidence categories, not as substitutes for the posting.
Rank #3
Software and technical roles
- Relevant programming languages and the ability to explain code clearly.
- Algorithms, data structures, testing, debugging and complexity analysis.
- Systems design and distributed-systems reasoning for roles with substantial scope.
- Production ownership, performance, reliability and incident learning.
- Security or privacy knowledge when the team’s work requires it.
- Machine-learning fundamentals for AI-focused roles.
- Communication, collaboration and responsible technical judgment.
Product and design roles
- Product judgment, prioritization and strategy.
- User research, experimentation, metrics and analytical reasoning.
- Cross-functional influence and clear written communication.
- A portfolio that shows decisions, iterations and outcomes—not only polished screens.
- Interaction and visual-design fundamentals where the role calls for them.
Research roles
- Publications or another credible record of research output.
- Experimental design, statistics and mathematical foundations appropriate to the field.
- Reproducible methods and strong technical communication.
- Evidence that research can create practical impact when the position is product-facing.
Business, policy and operations roles
- Relevant domain expertise and operational rigor.
- Stakeholder management, risk judgment and concise writing.
- Experience with sensitive, regulated or high-impact subject matter where specified.
- Regional or multilingual expertise when the requisition requests it.
Do you need a computer-science degree?
Only the individual posting can answer for a particular job. Some roles specify a degree; others emphasize equivalent experience or demonstrated capability. Candidates without a traditional degree can present professional results, open-source work, shipped projects, publications, certifications, apprenticeships or a strong portfolio. For data-center and skilled-trade work, a technical-school program, apprenticeship, trade credential or employer training may be more relevant than a four-year computer-science degree.
How the Meta hiring process works
Meta does not use one interview process for every function. A likely sequence can include a recruiter conversation, a role-specific assessment, behavioral or collaboration interviews and a final panel, but the mix depends on the requisition.
Software engineering
Meta publishes a software-engineering “full loop” preparation guide at metacareers.com/careers/SWE-prep-onsite. It describes multiple conversations designed to assess technical skills, help hiring managers understand the candidate and give the candidate insight into the opportunity. Prepare for coding fluency under time limits, edge-case testing, complexity trade-offs and systems-design reasoning appropriate to your experience. Also prepare behavioral examples showing impact, collaboration, ownership and learning.
Other functions
- Product: product sense, prioritization, execution, metrics and analytical exercises may be relevant.
- Design: portfolio presentation, critique and interaction or visual-design discussion may be central.
- Research: technical seminars, research discussion, experimental reasoning and domain depth may matter.
- Business and operations: case exercises, writing tasks, stakeholder scenarios or domain assessments may appear.
Do not assume that software-engineering coding rounds apply to a product, policy, design or operations application. Follow the instructions supplied for your role.
How to make your application stronger
Target the résumé to one requisition
- Lead with the experience most closely related to the stated responsibilities.
- Quantify outcomes using scale such as users, requests, revenue, data volume, latency, uptime, team size or geographic reach.
- Separate your contribution from the team’s overall result.
- Name technologies only when you can discuss how you used them.
- Use the posting’s terminology naturally, without keyword stuffing.
- Remove details that hide the strongest match, and keep dates and titles accurate.
- Link to relevant code, research, case studies or design work when appropriate.
A résumé supports an application; it cannot replace a qualification the posting requires. A referral may improve visibility, but it does not guarantee an interview or offer.
Build an evidence folder
Before interviews, collect concise stories about difficult decisions, measurable impact, failures and recovery, cross-functional conflict, customer or user insight, and work you owned from launch through maintenance. Technical candidates should be ready to explain design alternatives and operational trade-offs; designers and product candidates should be ready to show how evidence changed a decision.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Remote work, location, relocation and work authorization
Work arrangements are role- and geography-dependent. Check the exact location and wording in the requisition: “remote” may mean fully remote within a specified country, remote with periodic office attendance or a location-flexible arrangement subject to approval. Do not assume a remote agreement can be negotiated after hiring.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteMeta’s 2022 diversity report described approximately 75% of teams as working across multiple locations at that time, but that historical figure is not a 2026 company-wide remote-work rate. The report is available at about.fb.com and in PDF form.
Best Value
Confirm whether you have the right to work in the listed country, whether sponsorship is mentioned, what relocation support is actually stated, and whether travel or on-call duties apply. Compare housing costs, taxes and local labor conditions before accepting a move.
Students, early-career applicants and career changers
Search separately for internships, new-graduate roles, university recruiting, apprenticeships, research opportunities and entry-level operations or support work. An internship does not automatically convert to a permanent offer; conversion depends on performance, business need, headcount, role availability and local policy.
Career changers should target adjacent roles where their evidence is credible. For example, an operations specialist with regulated-industry experience may fit a policy or risk role more naturally than a senior software position. A technician may find a stronger route through data-center operations, an apprenticeship or a contractor than through a corporate engineering requisition.

Meta’s own career materials emphasize company-wide AI investment, large-scale infrastructure and products such as AI features and Ray-Ban Meta glasses. Infrastructure pages emphasize scale, reliability, security and compute-intensive work. Those are employer-positioning statements, not guarantees about a particular manager or team.
Use this scorecard before applying or accepting:
| Question | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Function fit | Does the daily work match your strongest skills and interests? |
| Level fit | Can you demonstrate the scope, independence and impact expected? |
| Evidence fit | Can your résumé, portfolio or research prove the required outcomes? |
| Interview fit | Can you prepare for the likely assessment format and time commitment? |
| Location fit | Are the location, authorization, travel and relocation terms workable? |
| Employment relationship | Would you be a Meta employee, contractor, partner worker, intern or training participant? |
| Personal fit | Do the pace, coordination load, values and expected availability suit you? |
| Career value | Will the role build durable skills, meaningful scope and a useful network? |
Large scale can provide substantial impact and learning, but it can also bring complex systems, coordination and fast-changing priorities. High-profile AI or infrastructure work may carry demanding technical expectations. A prestigious employer is not automatically the best fit for every career stage or working style.
Alternatives when Meta is not the right fit
If the desired specialty has no suitable Meta opening, consider infrastructure vendors, cloud providers, AI companies, research organizations, startups, public agencies, specialized suppliers or partner firms. Contractors can provide relevant experience, but compare pay, benefits, stability, ownership and access to internal systems rather than assuming equivalence with direct employment.
Final Meta application checklist
- Verified a live listing on an official Meta domain.
- Confirmed the exact title, level, requisition ID and employment relationship.
- Matched your evidence to the required qualifications and responsibilities.
- Tailored the résumé with accurate, measurable outcomes.
- Prepared portfolio, research, code or work samples where relevant.
- Researched the interview format for this function rather than assuming a software-engineering process.
- Checked location, remote conditions, travel and work authorization.
- Paid no recruiter or application fee.
- Submitted through the official application flow and saved a copy of the record.
The Bottom Line
Choose a Meta opportunity by function, level, evidence, location and employment relationship—not by title or brand alone. Verify the live requisition on Meta’s official careers site, tailor your proof of impact to that role, and treat contractor and workforce-training routes as distinct options.
