The company did not identify the policy or describe the conduct. The executives were then-CTO Rathi Murthy and Sreenivas Rachamadugu, senior vice president of core services product and engineering.
Which Expedia executives left?
Expedia Group said Murthy and Rachamadugu were no longer employed by the company. Both had joined Expedia in 2021 from Verizon Media, according to GeekWire’s contemporaneous report. Their roles at the time were CTO and senior vice president of core services product and engineering, respectively, as TechCrunch reported on May 19, 2024.
What reason did Expedia give?
Expedia said the decision resulted from “a violation of company policy.” It did not name the policy, explain what conduct was involved, or provide further details. The company said it would not comment further because of confidentiality, according to GeekWire and TechCrunch. The public accounts do not establish what happened, so claims about a particular kind of misconduct would go beyond what Expedia disclosed.
What did Expedia and Murthy say?
Expedia said it was “actively searching to fill these roles” and remained confident in its technology, strategy, and employees. Murthy, in a statement reported by TechCrunch, said she was proud of her work at Expedia, had sought to serve the company’s best interests, and looked forward to sharing her story at an appropriate time. Her statement is her response; it does not independently establish the circumstances behind the company’s decision.

When did the departures happen?
The exits were reported shortly after Expedia’s partner conference in Las Vegas and roughly a week after Ariane Gorin took over as CEO, according to Skift’s May 2024 account. That timing does not show that the conference or leadership change caused the dismissals. Expedia’s 2026 proxy statement identifies Gorin as CEO since May 2024; it is later leadership context, not an explanation of the 2024 departures.
