Expedia Group said in May 2024 that CTO Rathi Murthy and senior vice president Sreenivas Rachamadugu were no longer employed after a violation of company policy. The company did not identify the policy or disclose what conduct it was referring to, so the public reporting does not establish why the two executives left.
What Expedia said about the departures
In a statement reported by TechCrunch on May 19, 2024, Expedia said, “This decision is the result of a violation of company policy.” The company also said, “Due to confidentiality, we will not be making any further comments on the matter.”
Expedia did not name the policy, describe the alleged conduct, or provide its underlying evidence in the cited reporting. The available public account therefore supports only the company’s stated reason at that level of generality; it does not establish a specific explanation or independently verify the allegation.
Who left Expedia
The executives were Rathi Murthy, Expedia’s chief technology officer, and Sreenivas Rachamadugu, senior vice president of core services product and engineering. TechCrunch reported that both had joined Expedia in 2021 from Verizon Media.

Murthy’s response
Murthy made a separate statement, reported by TechCrunch, saying she was proud of her Expedia work and had conducted herself with integrity. She said, “I look forward to sharing my story at the appropriate time and setting the record straight.” These are Murthy’s statements about her own work and conduct; they do not explain Expedia’s decision or resolve the unspecified policy issue.

At the time of the departures, Expedia said it was searching to fill the roles and remained confident in its technology, strategy, and employees, according to TechCrunch. About five months later, PhocusWire reported that Ramana Thumu had been named CTO. That later appointment is succession context, not evidence about the reason for the departures.
Expedia’s 2026 proxy statement identifies Ariane Gorin as CEO since May 2024. The timing provides broader leadership context but does not establish a connection between her transition and the executives’ departures.
