Former Humble Games leaders Alan Patmore and Mark Nash have launched Balor Games, a new indie-publishing label, after acquiring publishing assets and rights associated with Humble Games. The March 4, 2026 announcement also included the complete Firestoke Games catalog and publishing rights to Fights in Tight Spaces. It was a publishing-business and catalog transaction—not a reported purchase of Humble Bundle or proof that the original Humble Games company changed hands.
What changed, and when?
The story unfolded in two stages: a 2024 arrangement to support games associated with Humble Games, followed by a 2026 acquisition and rebrand.
- July 2024: Ziff Davis laid off all 36 Humble Games employees, according to Engadget.
- Later in 2024: Former Humble Games leaders Alan Patmore and Mark Nash formed Good Games Group. The group helped manage back-catalog and in-development titles under a sublicensing agreement; GamesIndustry.biz coverage surfaced in a Ground News aggregation says the agreement was backed by MEP Capital.
- March 4, 2026: Good Games Group announced Balor Games as its publishing label and said it had acquired Ziff Davis’s game-publishing business related to Humble Games. The announcement also covered Firestoke’s complete catalog and publishing rights to Fights in Tight Spaces, as reported by Game Developer.
What exactly was acquired?
The available reporting describes the acquisition as a game-publishing business and catalog transaction, together with specified publishing rights. It does not establish that Good Games Group bought the Humble Games corporate entity, every underlying intellectual-property right, or Ziff Davis as a whole. The acquisition fee and full legal terms were not disclosed in the cited coverage.
Humble Bundle is separate from Humble Games. Engadget reported that the Humble Bundle storefront remained under Ziff Davis after the publishing transaction. The rebrand therefore should not be read as a sale of the storefront.

Which games and projects are in Balor’s portfolio?
Game Developer reported that Balor was custodian of over 60 indie titles following the deals. Its named examples include:
- Slay the Spire
- A Hat in Time
- SIGNALIS
- Forager
- Coral Island
- Monaco
- Wizard of Legend
In its March 4, 2026 interview, 80.lv described the portfolio as containing more than 50 indie titles and identified projects in development as well as released games. Among the in-development titles named were Billie Bust Up, Threads of Time, Town of Zoz, and Wild Blue Skies. These are different outlet-reported figures, not an audited title-by-title count; the exact total and rights allocation for each game are not established by the cited reports.

Why did the former leaders form Balor?
Balor has presented the launch as a continuation of relationships with studios, alongside a larger publishing operation. In its interview with 80.lv, the company said it had worked with a significant number of teams under sublicensing agreements since 2024 and that some of the new arrangements represented reunions.
CEO Alan Patmore described the change as a reunion for developers the team had worked with, saying the leadership and commitment to thoughtful publishing remained while the group’s scale and focus changed. He called Balor a “seal of quality for independent games,” as quoted by Engadget. Those are the company’s stated aims, not independently verified results.

Mark Nash told Game Developer that Balor planned to selectively invest in new projects and was still accepting pitches. The company has described its intended work as lifecycle support, community building, and commercial strategy across platforms and regions. The reporting does not provide a specific investment budget or a guaranteed publishing route for prospective studios.
