Transformers: Dark of the Moon leads the franchise’s nine theatrical releases by reported worldwide box office, narrowly ahead of Transformers: Age of Extinction. The ranking below uses nominal worldwide grosses reported by The Numbers; it measures ticket revenue, not profit or inflation-adjusted performance.
Transformers movies ranked by worldwide box office
Figures are reported worldwide theatrical grosses in nominal U.S. dollars. The release dates and ranking use The Numbers consistently; domestic totals are included for context and are cross-checked against Box Office Mojo. Database totals and release-date presentation can differ, so the table does not combine worldwide figures from one source with another source’s ranking.

What the box-office ranking shows
The top two are separated by less than $20 million
Dark of the Moon tops the list with $1,123,794,079 worldwide, compared with Age of Extinction at $1,104,054,072. The difference is $19,739,993—about 1.8% of the leader’s reported gross, calculated from the figures in The Numbers’ table.
Domestic and worldwide rankings are not the same
Revenge of the Fallen ranks third worldwide but has the highest domestic gross in the table: $402,111,870. Its domestic figure is higher than either of the top two films’ U.S. and Canada totals, even though both earn more worldwide. A domestic ranking therefore gives a different view from a worldwide one.

The 1986 film is not a like-for-like comparison
The Transformers: The Movie ranks ninth on reported gross, at $5,849,647. That nominal total should not be treated as a direct measure of audience size against modern releases: ticket prices, distribution scale and the accounting of later theatrical engagements differ across eras.

This is a ranking of reported theatrical grosses, not a ranking of studio profits. The Numbers lists estimated production budgets alongside grosses, but gross revenue is not the amount a studio keeps: marketing, distribution expenses and revenue sharing also affect a film’s financial result. The table also makes no adjustment for inflation and does not compare ticket admissions, reviews or broader franchise value.
Rank #2
The scope is the nine theatrical releases included in The Numbers’ Transformers franchise table, from the 1986 animated film through Transformers One (2024). It does not count shorts or television movies. A 2026 40th-anniversary theatrical event for the 1986 film is a rerelease, not a separate franchise movie, and is not added as a tenth entry.
