There is no verified, current public table showing the total years remaining on every Premier League club’s player contracts. The league publishes squad and retained-player lists, but those do not provide a complete, live record of contract expiries, options and amendments needed to calculate the totals. A meaningful comparison requires a dated, player-by-player compilation with consistent inclusion rules.
What the published Premier League lists can—and cannot—tell you
The Premier League’s post-January 2026 squad lists, published on 5 February 2026, cover the 2025/26 season. Each club’s senior registered squad is capped at 25 players, with no more than 17 who do not meet the Home Grown Player criterion. The league’s retained lists, published on 10 June 2026, report which players clubs said they would keep or release after the 2025/26 season. They are a snapshot of retained status, not a database of live contract terms or remaining years. Premier League: 2025/26 retained lists
The Premier League says that “Most Premier League contracts run until 30 June in a year.” That convention does not make an expiry date a guaranteed departure: a club and player may agree a new contract. Although search-result text for the 2025/26 Premier League handbook says clubs submit contracts and permitted amendments to the Board within five days of execution, the public squad lists do not disclose those filings. What a combined contract-years ranking would measure
“Total combined contract years” is a calculated statistic, not a published Premier League measure. To calculate it fairly, an analyst must determine each included player’s remaining contract time on the same cutoff date and add those values for each club. A total alone can mislead: it may reflect a larger counted squad rather than longer contracts on average. A useful comparison therefore reports the total, player count and average remaining years per included player together.

How to compile a comparable club-by-club table
- Fix the date and season. State the cutoff date next to the figures. The latest official senior-squad snapshot located here is the 2025/26 list published on 5 February 2026; it is not an October 2026 squad list.
- Define who counts. A clear main measure could use players on each club’s senior registered squad list. State separately whether eligible Under-21s, players loaned out and players on loan in are included. The league lists eligible Under-21s separately from the senior squad.
- Verify each contract expiry. Record the source and exact end date where available, including any disclosed option or extension that changes the term. Do not assume a reported expiry remains effective after a new agreement.
- Convert time consistently. Calculate the days remaining from the chosen cutoff to the contract end date, then divide by 365.2425 to express the result in decimal years. This avoids treating every expiry in a calendar year as though it were the same distance away.
- Sum and contextualize. Add the player-level remaining years for each club. Publish the number of included players and the per-player average alongside the total, using the same inclusion rules for every club.
- Keep unknowns unknown. Mark undisclosed expiries as unknown rather than guessing. If using a secondary database, identify its figures as estimates where applicable and link contract claims to club announcements when possible.

What historical averages say—and what they do not
UEFA’s 2022 European Club Finance and Investment Landscape report gives an average contract length of almost 33.5 months for Premier League clubs’ entire senior squads at the start of the 2022/23 season. For Premier League first elevens at that same point, it reports 40.4 months. These are historical league-level averages, not current club-by-club totals or a ranking of clubs. Why a precise current order cannot be stated here
The official sources cited above establish squad membership and retained status, but do not provide a complete current public record of every player’s expiry, option clauses and amendments. Without those player-level inputs, assigning totals or ranking clubs would create false precision. Any table that claims to be current should disclose its cutoff date, count rules, loan treatment, handling of options and whether contract dates are confirmed or estimated.
