ETSA 2026: Did Meesho CEO Vidit Aatrey Say Indian Founders Are Favoring Early IPOs?

The Economic Times’ ETSA 2026 event coverage confirms that Meesho cofounder and CEO Vidit Aatrey was scheduled to discuss the company’s journey. It does not confirm that he said Indian founders are choosing early IPOs instead of private capital. That attribution remains unverified in the available reports.

What ETSA 2026 coverage confirms

The Economic Times’ event preview said Aatrey and Groww cofounder and CEO Lalit Keshre would reflect on their companies’ paths from early-stage startups to publicly listed businesses. The preview reported that Groww listed in November 2025 and Meesho made its public-market debut in December 2025. The event preview

A separate ETSA newsletter described the awards as the twelfth edition of The Economic Times Startup Awards, named Groww Startup of the Year, and listed Aatrey as a scheduled speaker in a session about founders’ journeys.

What the reports do not establish

Neither event report includes a verbatim quote, transcript, or account of Aatrey arguing that Indian founders should pursue early IPOs rather than raise private capital. The reports confirm an appearance was scheduled; they do not verify the specific statement in the headline or show that founders broadly prefer one financing route over the other.

Zero to One: Notes on Startups, or How to Build the Future
  • If you want to build a better future, you must believe in secrets.
  • The great secret of our time is that there are still uncharted frontiers to explore and new inventions to create. In Zero to One, legendary entrepreneur and investor Peter Thiel shows how we can find singular ways to create those new things.

A founder’s discussion of a company’s path to listing is not, by itself, a recommendation to other founders. Verifying that claim would require a recording, transcript, or direct post-event report that attributes the remarks to Aatrey.

Why an IPO-versus-private-capital claim needs context

“Early IPOs instead of private capital” presents two financing routes as alternatives, but the event coverage does not compare them. A meaningful comparison would need to account for a company’s maturity and funding needs, the terms and availability of financing, founder and investor liquidity, governance obligations, and readiness for public-market disclosure. The sources provide no evidence on those factors or on Aatrey’s position about them.
