Ethereum Fell Nearly 6% on October 7, 2026: What the Liquidation Figures Actually Show

October 7 reports show a sharp Ethereum decline but differing liquidation totals. The $1.35 billion figure refers to completed market-wide liquidations in July, not ETH longs at risk in October.

Ethereum fell sharply on October 7, 2026, but the available reports do not establish that $1.35 billion in ETH long positions were at risk of liquidation. That figure belongs to a separate July report about liquidations already completed across the broader crypto market. October reports cite different ETH prices, time windows and liquidation totals, so the numbers should not be treated as interchangeable.

What happened to Ethereum’s price?

Two October 7 reports captured different market snapshots. PrimeXBT reported that ETH had fallen 5.67% to $2,555. BeInCrypto reported an intraday low of $2,591.71 on Binance and a price of $2,617.76 at publication, down 2.90% over 24 hours. These are not necessarily contradictory: prices and percentage changes depend on the time and measurement window used.

How much was liquidated?

The reports give different totals, with different scopes and windows. Neither figure is a measure of positions merely at risk: both describe liquidations reported as having occurred.

Report Liquidation figure Scope and window
PrimeXBT, October 7 $201 million in ETH liquidations; $665 million across crypto Attributed to CoinGlass; the report describes the totals as occurring that day, but does not link an underlying CoinGlass dataset.
BeInCrypto, October 7 $164.88 million in ETH long liquidations and $10.22 million in ETH short liquidations Attributed to CoinGlass over 24 hours.
CryptoCompass, October 7 $400 million in crypto long positions Watcher.Guru’s claim for a 20-minute period; CryptoCompass says it could not independently verify the figure through CoinGlass.

The totals should not be combined or used as though they measure the same thing. They differ by reporting time, window and whether the count covers ETH alone or all crypto. The $400 million figure is a single-source, market-wide claim, not an ETH-only total.

Is $1.35 billion in Ethereum longs at risk?

The cited sources do not substantiate that claim for the October 7 move. A TokenPost report published July 13, 2026 put completed liquidations across crypto markets at roughly $1.351 billion over the preceding 24 hours, including about $1.073 billion in long positions. It describes a different event and realized liquidations—not an estimate of ETH longs that might be liquidated after the October decline.

That distinction matters: “at risk” usually refers to positions that could be forcibly closed if prices reach modeled thresholds. A realized liquidation total counts positions already closed. An ETH liquidation map from ByKaranteli describes its levels as estimates based on recorded taker flow and open interest across venues, distinguishing those modeled levels from recorded liquidation prints. Estimates are not predictions or confirmed losses.

Did ETF outflows cause the decline?

Both October reports also noted US spot ETH ETF outflows on October 6. BeInCrypto cited $201.9 million from SoSoValue, while PrimeXBT reported $201 million. The reports show outflows alongside market weakness; they do not establish that ETF flows caused ETH’s price drop.

How to read liquidation headlines

  • Check the measurement: a price decline, completed liquidations and modeled exposure are different metrics.
  • Check the time window: an intraday total, a 20-minute burst and a rolling 24-hour figure can produce different numbers.
  • Check the scope: ETH-only figures are not comparable to totals for the whole crypto market.
  • Check the position side: long liquidations, short liquidations and all-side totals are not interchangeable.
