The Emmy Awards will move from broadcast TV to Prime Video beginning with the 2027 ceremony, under a six-year exclusive global deal. The Television Academy and Amazon say viewers will be able to watch live for free, without a Prime subscription.
Where can you watch the Emmys in 2027?
Prime Video will be the exclusive global streaming home of the Emmy Awards starting with the 2027 ceremony. The Television Academy and Amazon say the live stream will be free in more than 240 countries and territories and will not require a subscription. The announcements do not provide a country-by-country availability list or detail any exceptions. The Academy’s October 6, 2026 announcement and Amazon’s announcement describe a six-year agreement.
When is the 2027 ceremony?
The Academy says the ceremony will continue to take place live in September, but it has not announced the specific date or start time for 2027. Check the Academy’s or Prime Video’s listings closer to the event for scheduling details.
What changes from 2026 to 2027?
| Detail | 2026 ceremony | 2027 ceremony |
|---|---|---|
| Viewing home | NBC for the live telecast; Peacock for live and on-demand viewing, according to the Academy’s 2026 guide. | Prime Video, exclusively under the announced agreement. |
| Subscription requirement | Not stated in the Academy’s cited viewing guide. | The Academy and Amazon say no Prime Video subscription will be required. |
| Geographic reach | Not stated in the Academy’s cited viewing guide. | The Academy and Amazon say the free stream will reach more than 240 countries and territories; country-specific exceptions are not listed. |
| Live and replay details | The Academy’s guide listed live viewing on NBC and live and on-demand viewing on Peacock. | A live September ceremony is announced; a replay window and other viewing details have not been specified. |
The 2026 telecast is the final year of the Emmy Awards’ rotating arrangement among ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC, often called the “Wheel Deal.” The Academy’s 2026 viewing guide names NBC and Peacock for that year; it does not describe the 2027 plan. The Associated Press reports that the awards had aired annually on a broadcast network since 1955, with the rotation among those four networks in place for the past three decades. The AP’s October 6, 2026 report quotes Television Academy chair Cris Abrego saying continuity was a goal because the rotation meant “we were starting over every year.”

Does the move mean the Emmys are no longer on television?
The announced change is about where viewers can watch the ceremony: from a rotating broadcast-network telecast to an exclusive streaming home on Prime Video. The Academy will still present awards recognizing television programming. The announcements do not say whether the 2027 ceremony will also be carried on a broadcast channel.

- The specific 2027 ceremony date and start time.
- Country-by-country availability or any local exceptions to the stated global reach.
- How long a replay will remain available after the live stream.
- Whether red-carpet or backstage programming will be included.
- Whether the ceremony format will change.
The Academy and Amazon frame the deal as a way to reach audiences globally and offer more ways to engage with television. Those are the parties’ stated aims, not evidence that the new arrangement will increase viewership.
