Emirates announced an order for 65 additional Boeing 777-9 aircraft on 17 November 2025, with 130 additional GE9X engines. The airline gave the order a list-price value of US$38 billion and said it supports Boeing’s feasibility study for a larger 777-10. That study is not a launch announcement: Boeing has not been shown to have committed to producing the 777-10.
What Emirates ordered
Announced on the opening day of Dubai Airshow 2025, the deal adds 65 777-9s and 130 GE9X engines to Emirates’ commitments. The airline said the new aircraft order brought its 777X orderbook to 270 aircraft. Its stated total Boeing widebody orderbook was 315 aircraft: 270 777Xs, 10 777 freighters and 35 787s. These are announcement-date orderbook totals, not numbers of aircraft already delivered. Emirates’ announcement also put its GE9X orderbook at 540 engines, including the 130 in this deal.
What the US$38 billion figure means
US$38 billion is Emirates’ stated list-price value for the 65-aircraft order, not a disclosed net transaction price. The Associated Press reported that airlines often negotiate lower prices on major orders. The public figure therefore should not be read as proof that Emirates will pay US$38 billion.
What the 777-10 feasibility study means
Emirates described the 777-10 as a larger proposed member of the 777X family and said it fully supports Boeing’s feasibility study. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Emirates’ chairman and chief executive, said the airline has options to convert its latest 777-9 order to either the 777-10 or the 777-8.
#1 Best Overall
The distinction matters: the 65 aircraft are currently designated as 777-9s, while conversion is an option. A feasibility study is not confirmation that Boeing has formally launched the 777-10, finalized its design or committed to production. The announcement does not establish a 777-10 delivery schedule or provide firm specifications that would support a capacity or range comparison with the other variants.
When Emirates expects its first 777-9 deliveries
Emirates said it looks forward to receiving its first 777-9s from Q2 2027. That is the airline’s stated expectation, not a delivery date independently confirmed by Boeing. The AP account said Boeing Commercial Airplanes president and CEO Stephanie Pope did not give a delivery timeline in her remarks.

What Boeing says about the aircraft and market
Boeing said the 777-9 would reduce fuel use and emissions by 20% compared with the airplanes it replaces. That is the manufacturer’s product claim; the cited material does not independently validate the reduction. Boeing’s 2025 Commercial Market Outlook also projected a need for nearly 3,000 new widebody jets in the Middle East over the next 20 years. That is Boeing’s regional demand projection, not a confirmed order forecast. Boeing’s order announcement states both claims.

The order gives Emirates a larger commitment to the 777X family while leaving room to change the variant through the stated conversion options. But the order itself does not settle whether the 777-10 will enter production. For now, the concrete commitments are the 65 additional 777-9s and 130 engines; the 777-10 remains a subject of a feasibility study.
