Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg never fought. The proposed cage match did not reach a confirmed date or become an event. UFC CEO Dana White later said he negotiated the idea for two weeks, including a possible Colosseum venue, but his account does not establish that a final deal was made.
Did the Musk-Zuckerberg fight happen?
No. The proposed bout never took place. In August 2023, Zuckerberg said Musk had not committed to a real date or an official event, and that he was moving on. The Associated Press likewise describes the proposed fight as an event that never happened.
Zuckerberg summed up his position in a Threads post, as quoted by ABC News: “If Elon ever gets serious about a real date and official event, he knows how to reach me.” He also said Musk had not confirmed a date, had mentioned surgery, and had asked for a practice session instead of a formal event.
What did Dana White say about negotiations?
In June 2026, UFC CEO Dana White said he had spent two weeks negotiating with Musk and Zuckerberg about the proposed fight. “That was real. I was literally in my backyard for two weeks negotiating that fight,” White said, according to Forbes Australia.

White’s account supports that discussions took place; it does not show that the men signed an agreement or that an event was finalized. The distinction matters: public proposals and reported negotiations are not the same as a scheduled fight.
What was the Colosseum estimate?
White said the Colosseum wanted “something like $150 million” to host the event. Forbes Australia reported that he said the money would have gone to a fund to restore historic sites in Italy. The amount is White’s reported estimate, not an independently verified venue quotation, confirmed event budget, or fee shown to have been paid.

How did the fight proposal begin?
The idea surfaced in 2023 amid the public rivalry surrounding Meta’s launch of Threads and Musk’s ownership of X. Musk suggested a fight, and Zuckerberg responded publicly. By August, Zuckerberg said there was no confirmed date and indicated he was ready to move on unless Musk committed to a real event.
Did the two CEOs later revive the fight?
No later fight plan is established by the reported exchange between them in 2025. Fortune reported that unsealed court exhibits showed Zuckerberg texting Musk on February 3, 2025, offering help against doxxing or threats to Musk’s team. Musk then asked whether Zuckerberg would consider joining a bid for OpenAI. The messages indicate later contact and a more cooperative exchange, not renewed cage-match negotiations.
