Eight new Corvettes disappeared from a holding lot at General Motors’ Bowling Green Assembly Plant in March 2025. The first alert described in contemporaneous reports came not from a routine plant inventory check, but from a local resident who saw a suspicious new car; police contacted the plant manager, who then checked inventory and reported eight cars missing.
How were eight Corvettes stolen from the Bowling Green plant?
The cars were taken from the GM Bowling Green Assembly Plant lot in southern Kentucky. Bowling Green police put their combined value at $1.2 million, an estimate reported by The Associated Press and NewsChannel 5—not an independent valuation. Police said a fence had been cut to get the cars out. NewsChannel 5 later reported that security footage showed all eight leaving together through a hole in the fence.
How did residents and a transporter help police find the cars?
A resident’s report prompted an inventory check
In the initial account, a woman at a Bowling Green apartment complex reported seeing a man park a new Corvette, still bearing its stickers, and walk away. Local follow-up reporting identified residents Joevelyn Long and Sue Nalley as noticing a new Corvette without dealer tags and contacting the Warren County Sheriff’s Office. Police then contacted the assembly-plant manager, who checked inventory and reported that eight cars were missing. Long later recalled the manager telling her, “They wouldn’t have known anything if we hadn’t made the call.” That is Long’s recollection, as reported by NewsChannel 5.
A suspicious request led to another recovery
A vehicle transporter called police after being asked to move a Corvette to Michigan. When he arrived, he found three new 2025 Corvettes and noticed undercarriage damage. Bowling Green Police spokesperson Ronnie Ward told NewsChannel 5: “The person that had hired him was in a hurry, and they were trying to rush him along. He thought all of this was suspicious and called police.”

Its follow-up said one suspect had been arrested and police were seeking others at that time.
Were the stolen Corvettes recovered?
Yes. The Associated Press reported that all eight cars were recovered. The contemporaneous reports described one arrest and additional people sought; they do not establish the case’s later legal status.

Was a Corvette ZR1 stolen?
Apparently not. A red ZR1 pictured at the recovery scene prompted early confusion. In a March 24, 2025 report, CorvetteBlogger attributed a clarification to a Chevrolet contact: the ZR1 had reportedly been driven to the scene by a plant employee helping with the recovery, and was not one of the stolen cars.
