Egenera acquired Dublin-based Fort Technologies in December 2012, adding cloud lifecycle-management software to its offering and establishing Fort as Egenera’s European business. The purchase price was not disclosed; the “several million euro” figure reported at the time was an industry estimate, not a confirmed deal value.
What happened in the Egenera–Fort Technologies deal?
The Irish Independent reported on 7 December 2012 that US company Egenera had acquired Fort Technologies, a Dublin cloud-management software company. Founded in 2008, Fort made software that let businesses run cloud services on their own computers. The report said Fort would become Egenera’s European business, with its 10 employees and three founders staying on.
A German-language reprint of an acquisition announcement, dated 5 December 2012, described Fort as a cloud lifecycle-management company. It said the combination would extend Egenera’s products for service providers and enterprise customers, with Fort’s management functions potentially integrated into Egenera’s PAN Cloud Director.
| Company | Role in the deal | Customer and geographic context |
|---|---|---|
| Fort Technologies | Dublin-based cloud lifecycle-management software; reported as adding management functionality. | Joined Egenera as its European business; 10 employees and three founders were reported to remain. |
| Egenera | US buyer whose PAN Cloud Director could be complemented by Fort’s management software. | The stated product rationale addressed service providers and enterprise customers. |
Why did Egenera acquire Fort?
Egenera presented the acquisition as a way to broaden its cloud products and help customers deliver cloud services faster. In the Irish Independent, CEO Pete Manca said the deal would help customers move to the cloud faster and create more enterprise-class, resilient and secure clouds.

In the German-language announcement reprint, Egenera’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing for EMEA, Thomas Duda, said the expanded product range was intended to help service providers and enterprise customers provide scalable, secure cloud services with shorter time-to-market cycles. The announcement said Fort’s management capabilities could be integrated into PAN Cloud Director; it did not establish exactly how that integration later proceeded.
How much did Egenera pay?
The Irish Independent reported that the transaction terms were not disclosed. It also reported an industry-watchers’ estimate of “several million” euro. That estimate was not a confirmed purchase price, and the available reporting does not establish a precise transaction value.

What does Egenera do now, and what happened to Fort’s software?
Egenera’s current company page describes it as a global cloud-services provider founded in 2000. It markets Xterity cloud services to managed service providers and IT organizations, with capabilities spanning compute, network, storage, operating systems, applications, backup, disaster recovery and migration.
That current description does not establish whether Fort’s software remains a separately marketed product or the precise outcome of the proposed PAN Cloud Director integration. The 2012 acquisition rationale and Egenera’s present-day service portfolio are useful context, but they do not by themselves document the intervening product history.
