Travel Tuesday has the stronger historical record for travel-deal activity on Hopper, but that does not prove it is the cheapest day to book a particular flight or hotel. Black Friday is still worth checking: sales can start earlier and continue through Travel Tuesday. Compare the exact trip and the total checkout price, not just the sale-day label or advertised discount.
What the evidence says about Black Friday and Travel Tuesday
Hopper says its review of nine consecutive holiday-sale periods found Travel Deal Tuesday was its biggest day for travel deals. In Hopper’s 2024 platform data, it counted more deals on Travel Deal Tuesday than on Black Friday and Cyber Monday combined. That is a comparison of offers on Hopper, not an independent survey of prices across the travel market. Hopper’s 2025 account describes the historical deal-count finding.
Hopper also reported that its customers planned nearly three times as many trips on Travel Deal Tuesday in 2024 as on Black Friday, twice as many as on Cyber Monday, and 3.5 times as many as on the previous Tuesday. These figures measure planning activity among Hopper customers; they do not show how many travelers completed bookings or how much they saved. Hopper’s event announcement gives the trip-planning comparisons.
The figures therefore support a limited conclusion: Travel Tuesday may be a productive day to look for a wider selection of promotions on Hopper. They do not establish that a given route, hotel, cruise, or package will cost less that day than on Black Friday—or than it did before either sale.

Why Black Friday can still be the better time to book
Travel promotions do not necessarily begin and end on one day. Expedia Group’s 2025 hotel campaign ran from November 20 through December 2, spanning Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Travel Tuesday. It advertised up to 40% off thousands of hotels through Expedia and Hotels.com; a limited number of Hotels.com Travel Tuesday offers advertised up to 75% off select hotels while supplies lasted. These were advertised offers, not a like-for-like price test, and the announcement does not show that the Travel Tuesday price was lower for the same property, dates, and terms. Expedia Group’s 2025 announcement gives the sale window and offer conditions.
A sale that runs across both days makes the deal’s actual terms more important than its name. The useful comparison is the same itinerary or stay, for the same travel dates, with the same eligibility and included services. Availability can change during a sale, so a headline discount on a different room or flight is not a meaningful comparison.

How to compare a travel sale with the price you would actually pay
- Choose the trip first. Pin down destination, dates, travelers, room occupancy, and acceptable flight times. A deal on dates you cannot use is not a saving.
- Save a baseline price. Before the sales, record the itinerary or stay you want and its current price. Compare the same product and dates when offers appear; a percentage off an inflated or unrelated reference price can mislead. The Associated Press quotes NerdWallet travel expert Sally French warning that a “40 percent off” claim does not prove the underlying price is the best available. The AP’s consumer guidance explains why the headline discount alone is insufficient.
- Compare the final checkout total. Include taxes, fees, baggage, seat selection, resort fees, and any other add-ons you would need. Check whether a lower advertised price depends on an app, membership, or other eligibility condition.
- Read the restrictions before paying. Check refund and change rules, blackout dates, booking and travel windows, occupancy limits, inventory limits, and upgrade conditions. Hopper consumer expert Lindsay Schwimer, as reported by AP, recommends that people seeking last-minute Christmas or New Year’s deals check blackout dates and restrictions.
- Ignore urgency as a reason by itself. Sally French advises travelers to compare prices, check their calendars, and book trips they genuinely want rather than yielding to a countdown timer. A promotion is useful only if the trip fits your plans and its terms work for you.
What to expect for Travel Tuesday 2026
Travel Tuesday falls on December 1 in 2026, according to the date listed on British Airways’ Travel Tuesday page. That page identifies the event date but does not confirm a particular 2026 deal. As of October 4, 2026, the available material does not establish a comprehensive, like-for-like comparison of 2026 Black Friday and Travel Tuesday prices for flights, hotels, cruises, and tours. Specific offers, booking terms, and travel windows should be checked with the seller when announced; past campaigns do not guarantee a repeat.
The event is commonly framed around the Tuesday after the U.S. Thanksgiving sales sequence, so its date changes each year. The promotions discussed here are often North American in their sale messaging, even when the destinations and participating brands are international. An easyJet holidays Black Friday page indicated that 2026 offers were forthcoming, rather than providing a confirmed, comparable offer schedule.
