In October 2019, EdgeMicro said it had tenants lined up for planned edge data center deployments in Austin, Tampa, and Raleigh. Its first two sites were expected to come online by that month’s end, with Raleigh to follow. The report described plans and expectations at the time—not confirmation that the sites later opened.

Where EdgeMicro planned to deploy

Data Center Knowledge reported on October 30, 2019, that Denver-based EdgeMicro was preparing deployments at wireless tower sites in Austin, Tampa, and Raleigh after two years of preparation. Austin and Tampa were expected online by the end of October 2019, with Raleigh close behind. These were reported schedules, not independently verified completion dates.

The company was also selecting and permitting sites in 20 additional cities, with launches anticipated in 2020. That figure described a pipeline of planned locations, not completed deployments. The report does not establish whether those locations—or the initial three—ultimately opened.

Who were EdgeMicro’s first customers?

EdgeMicro reportedly had tenants for its initial colocation deployments, described as primarily hyperscalers and content providers. The report did not name the tenants or disclose contracts, capacity commitments, or financial terms. It therefore does not support identifying any particular streaming company or cloud provider as a signed customer.

Why EdgeMicro said the model mattered

EdgeMicro presented its approach as a way to put colocation closer to users while reducing the friction of acquiring sites. Jason Bourg, the company’s vice president of sales, said: “This is about much more than three sites going live.”

What the announcement does—and does not—establish

The October 30, 2019 article records a specific expansion plan, reported tenant interest, and design specifications. It does not verify that the first sites launched on schedule, that the additional-city pipeline became operational, or that EdgeMicro maintains those services today. For the historical account, see Data Center Knowledge’s October 30, 2019 report.
