A buyer with 0 feedback can still be a legitimate eBay customer. Check the order’s payment status in your eBay account before doing anything: Buy It Now commits a buyer to pay, but it does not always mean checkout is complete. Do not ship until eBay shows the order as paid.
Can someone with 0 feedback buy your item on eBay?
Yes. A zero feedback score means there is no feedback history to assess; on its own, it does not show that the buyer is fraudulent or will fail to pay. eBay’s cited buyer-requirement guidance does not describe a general setting that automatically blocks every buyer with exactly 0 feedback. The controls it does describe address criteria such as shipping destination, prior cancellations for nonpayment, and purchase or winning-item volume. Available settings may vary by account and marketplace.
A Buy It Now selection is a commitment to complete the purchase, not proof that payment has cleared. eBay’s US unpaid-item policy says buyers must pay within four calendar days. If checkout did not collect payment automatically, the order may remain unpaid during that period. (eBay Unpaid item policy)
First, check whether eBay shows the order as paid
- Open the order in your eBay account and check its payment status.
- If it is marked paid, fulfill it using the shipping method and address shown in that eBay transaction.
- If it is awaiting payment, do not ship. Treat an email, message, or payment screenshot as unverified unless the order record itself shows payment received.
A paid order should not be canceled solely because the buyer has no feedback. Keep messages, payment, and any resolution on eBay; eBay warns that off-platform transactions are outside its protection programs. (Avoiding payment problems for items you’ve sold)

Buy It Now payment timing depends on the listing type
| Listing setup | Payment timing | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed-price listing with immediate payment required | Payment is required during checkout. | The item remains available until a buyer completes checkout. |
| Auction listing with a Buy It Now option | Immediate payment normally stops being required after a bid is placed; eBay describes a reserve-price exception. | The auction’s Buy It Now payment rules differ from those for a fixed-price listing. |
| Order already marked paid | eBay shows payment received for the transaction. | Ship according to the order details in eBay. |
These distinctions come from eBay’s explanation of how immediate payment works. Immediate payment can be required on eligible fixed-price listings; it should not be assumed to work the same way after bidding starts on an auction listing with Buy It Now.
What to do if the buyer does not pay
If payment has not arrived, wait until the applicable four-calendar-day period has passed, then use eBay’s unpaid-order process if the order is still unpaid. eBay says sellers can cancel after four or more calendar days. For a single-quantity fixed-price Buy It Now listing, relisting may happen automatically unless you opt out; eBay says to handle the cancellation within 30 days for that relisting workflow. Check the order dates and current seller interface before acting. (Resolving unpaid items with buyers)

When canceling, choose the truthful reason available for the order. eBay says “Buyer hasn’t paid” becomes available after four full calendar days. Its cancellation guidance also says unpaid cancellations remove feedback left by the buyer and do not affect seller standards. (How sellers can cancel an order)
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which buyer controls can help?
eBay’s buyer requirements let sellers set certain criteria, including restrictions related to shipping locations, prior order cancellations for nonpayment, and a specified number of purchases or winning items in the last 10 days. Separately, sellers can block individual buyers. These are eligibility controls, not guaranteed fraud detectors, and the cited help pages do not establish a universal zero-feedback-only ban. Review the live options for your account and marketplace rather than assuming every setting is available. (Setting buyer requirements; Buying limits and restrictions)
