EA has not published a current, comparable table of lifetime game-copy sales for its ten biggest franchises. The best-supported answer is therefore an estimate-based list, not a definitive ranking: EA’s public milestones are years apart, and broader franchise lists combine estimates that are not consistently dated or measured. Three franchises—FIFA, Need for Speed, and The Sims—have useful historical sales figures from EA itself; the available evidence does not establish an exact top ten in order.
Why an exact all-time top ten is hard to verify
A fair ranking needs comparable numbers: franchise-wide copies or units sold, measured on a known date. EA has released some such milestones, but not a current table covering ten franchises on the same basis. Its more recent reporting also uses measures such as net bookings, revenue, and player counts. Those figures answer different questions and cannot be substituted for lifetime game-copy sales.

A secondary compilation lists estimates for franchises including FIFA, The Sims, Need for Speed, Madden NFL, Battlefield, and Mass Effect. It is useful for identifying candidates, but it does not provide a uniformly dated, primary-source EA ranking. The order—and the position of entries beyond the best-documented examples—should be treated as approximate, not audited fact. See the franchise-list compilation.
EA franchises with published lifetime sales milestones
| Franchise | EA-reported milestone | What the figure means |
|---|---|---|
| Need for Speed | More than 150 million copies since its 1994 launch, reported in 2013 | Franchise-wide copies; a historical lower-bound figure, not a current total. |
| The Sims | More than 140 million units since its February 2000 launch, reported in 2011 | Franchise-wide units at that time. In 2025, EA separately reported more than 500 million lifetime players; players are not copies sold. |
| FIFA | More than 100 million units worldwide, reported in November 2010 | Franchise-wide units at that time. EA also said FIFA 11 had sold 8 million units, but that is one game, not the franchise total. |
These figures are not a clean head-to-head snapshot: they were reported in different years, and EA’s statements use both “copies” and “units.” They support the conclusion that all three were major-selling franchises, but not a precise current ordering among them.

What can responsibly be said about the ten candidates?
Public estimates and EA’s historical milestones point to a broader group of prominent EA series, but the evidence provided does not support assigning ten precise ranks with comparable franchise-wide sales totals. The table distinguishes what is supported from what is not established, rather than making up a numeric order.
| Franchise or candidate | What the available evidence establishes |
|---|---|
| FIFA / EA SPORTS FC | EA reported more than 100 million FIFA franchise units worldwide by November 2010. That historical figure is not a current combined FIFA/EA SPORTS FC total. |
| Need for Speed | EA reported more than 150 million franchise copies since 1994 in 2013. |
| The Sims | EA reported more than 140 million franchise units in 2011. Its 2025 figure of more than 500 million is lifetime players, not units sold. |
| Madden NFL | Included among EA franchise estimates in the secondary compilation; a comparable EA-reported lifetime unit figure is not established here. |
| Battlefield | Included among EA franchise estimates in the secondary compilation; a comparable EA-reported lifetime unit figure is not established here. |
| Mass Effect | Included among EA franchise estimates in the secondary compilation; a comparable EA-reported lifetime unit figure is not established here. |
| Other candidates in broader lists | The available material does not establish a complete set of ten candidates with comparable, dated franchise-unit totals or a defensible ordering. |
Accordingly, labeling these entries “No. 1” through “No. 10” would imply a degree of measurement and precision that the public evidence does not provide. Treat any exact ten-place list based on broad estimates as an editorial approximation, and check each figure’s date and definition before comparing it.

Is FIFA or The Sims bigger?
The available EA figures do not settle that comparison today. EA reported more than 100 million FIFA units by November 2010 and more than 140 million Sims units by 2011, but those milestones are from different dates. EA’s 2025 announcement that The Sims had more than 500 million lifetime players does not make it larger in copies sold; a person can play without representing a separately sold copy, and the figure measures players rather than sales.

EA’s FY2025 reporting said its American Football franchise exceeded $1 billion in net bookings during FY25. That is a one-year financial measure, not lifetime units sold. EA also reported nearly 4 million units sold for Split Fiction since its March 2025 launch; that is an individual game’s sales figure, not a franchise total. Neither figure belongs in an all-time franchise-copy ranking.

- Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone
- Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
For the same reason, revenue, net bookings, engagement, player counts, or the sales of one installment should not be added to a franchise-unit ranking. Each can be useful on its own, but each measures something different.
