Electronic Arts’ approximately $55 billion acquisition is complete. EA announced the agreement on September 29, 2025, and said it closed on August 4, 2026. The buyers were Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners. The agreed shareholder payment was $210 in cash per share—not $55 billion per shareholder.
Who bought Electronic Arts?
The acquiring consortium comprised PIF, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners. PIF already held a 9.9% stake in EA and agreed to roll it over into the transaction. EA’s September 29, 2025 announcement set out the agreement; the company later confirmed the completed transaction in its August 4, 2026 closing announcement.
What does the $55 billion figure mean?
EA described the deal at announcement as an approximately $55 billion enterprise-value acquisition. Enterprise value is a company-level transaction measure; it is not the amount each shareholder received. The specified consideration for EA common shares was $210 in cash per share held as of the closing.
EA said the $210 offer represented a 25% premium to the stock’s $168.32 closing price on September 25, 2025, which the company identified as the last fully unaffected trading day before the announcement. These are company-reported transaction figures.

What happened to EA stock?
EA stated at closing that its common stock ceased trading and would be delisted from NASDAQ. The $210 cash payment applied to shares held as of closing. Individual account processing and tax treatment can depend on a holder’s circumstances; the company’s deal announcements do not establish those details.
How did the transaction reach closing?
- September 29, 2025: EA announced a definitive agreement for the consortium to acquire the company.
- December 22, 2025: EA stockholders approved the merger.
- July 30, 2026: EA reported that all required regulatory approvals had been obtained. The company said the merger was not subject to a financing condition.
- August 4, 2026: EA announced that the acquisition had closed.
The filed announcement described approximately $36 billion in equity investment, including PIF’s rollover, and $20 billion in debt financing committed by JPMorgan Chase Bank; $18 billion of that debt was expected to be funded at close. What have the buyers and EA said about the company’s future?
At closing, CEO Andrew Wilson said the parties would “invest boldly” and build the next generation of games and experiences. Silver Lake CEO Egon Durban cited investment in EA’s growth, including possible uses of AI in game development and player experience. Those comments describe the parties’ stated aims; they do not establish what investments, products, or outcomes will follow.
EA reported approximately $7.5 billion in GAAP net revenue for fiscal year 2026. That is a company-reported revenue figure, distinct from the acquisition’s enterprise value and the cash consideration paid per share.
