A Duncraig ticket won $1 million in Monday Lotto on 8 January 2024, making its holder Western Australia’s first Division One winner of the year. Lotterywest said the ticket was also the only Division One winner across Australia in that draw. The winner later claimed the prize with his wife, who had expected a much smaller amount.
Which draw produced the $1 million win?
The winning draw was Monday Lotto on Monday, 8 January 2024. Lotterywest announced the result on 9 January, describing it as the first WA Lotto Division One win of 2024. The prize was $1 million, and Lotterywest said no other Division One ticket won nationally in that draw. Lotterywest’s 9 January announcement
Where was the winning ticket sold?
The winning entry was a Slikpik 12 bought from Glengarry Lottery Centre & News in Duncraig. It was registered to a Lotterywest membership account; Lotterywest said registration enabled it to contact the ticket holder. Registration helped identify the holder, but it does not guarantee a win.
How did the couple find out they had won?
Lotterywest’s follow-up, published 10 January, said a retired man in his 60s came forward with his wife to claim the prize. They thought they were collecting $500. The wife learned the actual amount in Lotterywest’s Winners Room. The winner recalled, “I laughed and said ‘yeah, yeah’, not believing it,” while his wife said, “I’m in shock, I had no idea.” Lotterywest did not publish their names.
