In November, news reports said their remains had been found in a desert area near Dubai. Russian authorities pursued a criminal case, and subsequent reports described several people being detained or held in custody; those allegations are not findings of guilt.
The supplied title spells the man’s name “Roman Nova”; the news reports cited here identify him as Roman Novak. The couple’s disappearance and the investigation have been reported by Russian and international outlets, but the accounts available here do not include a direct UAE police release or court record. Details about motive, cryptocurrency access and forensic evidence therefore need to be treated as reported claims, not independently established facts.
Where were Roman and Anna Novak last seen?
The Moscow Times reported on November 7, 2025, citing a statement from Russia’s Investigative Committee, that the couple’s relatives alerted authorities after losing contact with them. According to that account, their driver last saw them on October 2 near a lake in Hatta, where they were expected to meet purported investors. The couple then transferred to another vehicle and were not seen again.

Russian criminal investigation
The Moscow Times reported on November 7 that Russia’s Investigative Committee had opened a criminal case and was working with UAE authorities. PerthNow attributed a statement to Committee spokesperson Svetlana Petrenko: “The investigation has established that the killers had accomplices who helped organise the abduction.” That is an account of the investigators’ position as quoted by the outlet, not a court finding.
Three defendants reported in custody
Kommersant reported on November 8, 2025, that three defendants had been remanded in custody in St Petersburg on suspicion of group murder for mercenary motives. The report describes allegations and a custody decision; it does not establish that the defendants committed the crime.
