How much did Dropbox pay for DocSend?
Dropbox reported different figures in different documents because they describe different measures of the deal:

These amounts should not be combined or treated as interchangeable: the announcement price, the later earnings-release description, and accounting purchase consideration are distinct disclosures. The reviewed Dropbox sources do not state £118 million or establish the exchange-rate date or conversion method behind that sterling amount.
When did Dropbox acquire DocSend?
Dropbox announced a definitive agreement on March 9, 2021, then announced that the acquisition had been completed on March 22, 2021. Its fiscal 2021 filing says it acquired all outstanding DocSend stock on the closing date. Dropbox completion announcement

What is DocSend?
Dropbox described DocSend at the time as a secure document-sharing and analytics company with more than 17,000 customers. Its role in the proposed combined workflow was to let users share documents securely and receive engagement feedback. The customer figure was Dropbox’s statement around the 2021 announcement and completion, not a current count.

Dropbox presented the acquisition as an expansion of its document workflow strategy. In the company’s framing, Dropbox supported content collaboration and storage, DocSend added secure sharing and analytics, and HelloSign supplied e-signature capability. Dropbox called the intended combination an “end-to-end suite of secure, self-serve products for content collaboration, sharing, and e-signature.”

Dropbox co-founder and CEO Drew Houston linked the strategy to remote work, saying there was increased demand for digital tools that help people organize content and collaborate. DocSend CEO Russ Heddleston said joining Dropbox would help the company scale its capabilities. Those statements explain the companies’ rationale at announcement; they do not establish that expected product or business benefits were later realized.
