A DoorDash driver in Vanderburgh County, Indiana, was charged after two customers reported becoming ill after a delivery and investigators reviewed doorbell-camera footage that they said showed a substance being sprayed toward the food. The charges are allegations, not findings of guilt; the sheriff’s office said the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
What authorities say happened
The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office said one of the two customers contacted the agency on Dec. 7, 2025, about a delivery the couple had ordered through DoorDash shortly after midnight. After eating, the couple reported burning sensations in their mouths, noses, throats and stomachs, as well as vomiting.
According to the sheriff’s office, the couple reviewed doorbell-camera footage. The release says it showed the Dasher set the food down out of camera view on the porch, take a photo, spray a substance toward the food from a small aerosol can attached to her keychain, and leave.
Detectives subpoenaed DoorDash records and used other investigative methods to identify the Dasher as Kourtney N. Stevenson, the agency said. The sheriff’s office reported that Stevenson told detectives she had used pepper spray but was aiming at a spider, not the food. The agency countered that the overnight low was 35°F and said outdoor spiders in Indiana would not be active at that temperature. That is the sheriff’s office’s account of the investigation, not a court finding about what happened or Stevenson’s intent. Read the sheriff’s office release.

- Two counts of Battery Resulting in Moderate Injury, Level 6 felonies.
- Two counts of Consumer Product Tampering, Level 5 felonies.
The charge descriptions and levels are those reported by the sheriff’s office. A charge is an accusation; it does not establish that the conduct occurred or that the defendant is guilty.

Was Stevenson arrested, and what happened afterward?
The sheriff’s office said Stevenson was arrested in Kentucky by the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office and was to be held pending extradition to Indiana. The warrant set a $3,500 cash bond. A local 14 News/WFIE report published Dec. 18 and updated Dec. 19, 2025, later said she had been extradited to Indiana, appeared in court and was released on that bond. Read the 14 News/WFIE report.

What DoorDash said
The Guardian reported on Dec. 14, 2025, that a DoorDash spokesperson said the company had permanently removed Stevenson’s access to the platform and was supporting law enforcement. The reviewed sources do not establish a later update to that company response. Read The Guardian’s report.

The sheriff’s office release states that an arrest or criminal charge is merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court. Sheriff Noah Robinson said: “Residents should be able to trust that the food they order for their families is safe. When someone violates that trust and endangers others, we will respond with urgency and we will pursue charges.” His statement reflects the agency’s position, not a court conclusion. The sheriff’s office release contains the agency’s account and legal notice.
