Used-market guidance puts the original Switch family at roughly half its new price, while the Switch 2 is already established. Check recent completed sales for your exact model before setting a price, and weigh the money you could get against the value of continuing to use the console.
Why selling sooner can make sense
Every month you keep a console you no longer use is another month in which its resale value is exposed to changing demand and market conditions. No available evidence establishes how much original Switch prices will change, or when; selling now is a practical choice if you have already decided to let it go, not a guarantee of a better price.
Swappa’s guide, updated September 24, 2026, characterizes original Switch family models as selling for about half their new price. Its reported September 2026 sale of about $205 against a $399.99 new price is specifically for the Switch OLED. It is useful context for the used market, but it is not a price estimate for the standard original Switch. Swappa’s used-console guide
How to set a realistic asking price
Start with your exact model and condition
Use completed sales for the same model—not just active asking prices—and compare consoles in similar condition with similar included items. Identify whether yours is the standard Switch, Switch Lite, or Switch OLED; describe screen and body condition, Joy-Con functionality, and any defects. Bundle contents and condition can affect the price.

Use trade-in quotes as a convenience benchmark
A GameStop standard-console quote generated September 10, 2026 listed up to $70 in regular store credit or $49 cash, and up to $77 in Pro store credit or $53.90 cash. That quote expired at the end of September 10, 2026; it is not a current offer. Check a fresh quote at your local store before deciding. GameStop’s terms said the trade required a fully working system and necessary components, and was subject to manager approval, location restrictions, and change without notice. GameStop’s trade-in page
Compare the amount you would actually receive, not just the headline value: store credit is not cash, and a private sale may involve platform fees, shipping or handoff effort, and more time waiting for a buyer. No universal current fee comparison or best marketplace is established, so check the venue’s terms before listing.

Choose a selling route that fits your priorities
| Route | What to weigh |
|---|---|
| Trade-in | Can be more convenient; compare a fresh local cash offer with any store-credit offer, and confirm condition and component requirements. |
| Private sale | May give you more control over asking price, but requires listing, communication, and arranging payment and delivery or pickup. Check venue fees and safety guidance. |
| Other secondhand channels | Nintendo lists online retailers, pawn shops, classified ads, garage or flea markets, and auction sites as places to find used Nintendo products. Research the company or buyer; secondhand products do not carry a Nintendo hardware or accessory warranty. Nintendo’s used-product guidance |
There is no one best venue for every seller. Decide how much convenience, speed, and effort matter, then compare the actual offer or likely net proceeds available to you.

Nintendo planned a US Switch 2 price of $499.99 effective September 1, 2026. The company said other regions would handle Switch 2 and Switch price revisions locally, with details announced by overseas subsidiaries. That is useful context for buyers considering newer hardware, but it does not establish a direct effect on the value of your original Switch. Nintendo’s price-revision document
