Best overall: Buy the unlocked Galaxy S26 Ultra directly from Samsung if you want carrier freedom. Samsung advertised up to $720 off with an eligible trade-in, while a recent no-trade-in promotion reduced the 256GB model by about $250. The strongest headline prices came from carriers, but those offers usually require a qualifying plan, a trade-in, and up to 36 months of bill credits.
This US-focused guide is based on offers and pricing reported around August 16, 2026. Promotions, trade-in values, inventory and plan requirements change quickly, so confirm the live checkout terms before paying.

The real baseline price
Samsung’s March 2026 US MSRP sheet lists the unlocked Galaxy S26 Ultra at $1,299.99 for 256GB and $1,499.99 for 512GB. The 512GB version therefore costs $200 more before any promotion. See Samsung’s MSRP price sheet.

Sales tax, shipping, financing terms, accessories, activation or connection charges, and carrier service costs can change the effective price. Best unlocked deal: Samsung direct
Samsung is the cleanest choice for buyers who want an unlocked phone and do not want their savings tied to a carrier. Its offer page advertised up to $720 in instant trade-in credit for an eligible device. That is a maximum, not a standard value. Your quote depends on the phone model, storage, condition and current promotion.
Samsung’s recent no-trade-in promotion offered up to about $250 off, which would put the 256GB model near $1,049.99 before tax when active. However, the listed promotional window ran through August 16, 2026. Because that date has passed, treat the $250 figure as a recent offer rather than a guaranteed current price and check the live Samsung offer page.
An instant checkout reduction is generally easier to value than a carrier promotion. You receive the benefit immediately, retain the freedom to change carriers, and do not need to keep a qualifying service plan for three years.

Samsung trade-in requirements
Before accepting Samsung’s estimate, confirm that the phone powers on, holds a charge and has a functioning display. It must be free of disqualifying damage, removed from account locks, factory-reset and shipped within the stated deadline. Samsung can reduce or charge back the credit if the device fails inspection or arrives late.
- One trade-in is permitted per qualifying purchase.
- Outstanding financing with your current carrier or retailer does not disappear when you trade in the phone.
- Samsung’s trade-in offer generally cannot be combined with carrier or retailer promotions unless the terms expressly permit it.
- Photograph the phone’s condition and keep shipment and delivery records.
Best deal if you have a valuable phone to trade in
Start with Samsung if you have a recent iPhone, Galaxy Ultra or other premium device and want an unlocked S26 Ultra. Get Samsung’s live quote, then compare it with the value of selling the old phone privately and with the carrier offers available on your existing account.

Do not assume a carrier’s “free” offer beats Samsung. A carrier may offer a larger promotional credit, but the value can be spread over 36 months and disappear if you leave, change to an ineligible plan or pay off the device early. A high-value trade-in can also be more useful privately than as a carrier credit, particularly if you were already planning to keep your current service.
For an older, damaged or low-value phone, a carrier promotion may produce a better advertised credit than Samsung. But compare the complete service cost before surrendering the device.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsBest deal without a trade-in
Samsung’s recent roughly $250 instant discount was the strongest straightforward no-trade-in option identified in the research. It is the best kind of offer for a buyer who wants an unlocked phone: the saving is visible at checkout and does not depend on maintaining a new line.
Best Buy and Amazon may be worthwhile alternatives if you will definitely use their gift cards. Tom’s Guide reported a $100 Best Buy gift card, with an additional $100 reduction in one carrier-connection configuration, and a $200 Amazon gift card with the phone near its $1,299 list price. See the reported retailer offers, then verify the exact listing.
A gift card is not the same as an immediate price reduction. It is worth its face value only if you would otherwise shop at that retailer. Amazon listings can vary by seller, storage tier and inventory. At Best Buy, a lower price may require a carrier connection, so do not call it an unlocked deal unless the specific listing says so.

Carrier deals: when the “free” phone is actually worthwhile
T-Mobile
T-Mobile advertised the S26 Ultra for under $200 in some configurations with a new line on an Experience More or Experience Beyond plan and up to 36 monthly bill credits. The offer is most compelling for an existing customer already paying for a qualifying plan and intending to stay through the full credit period.
T-Mobile’s terms say taxes are due on the pre-credit price, a $35 device connection charge may apply, and credits can stop if you cancel the account or pay off the device early. Qualifying plans can cost $85 or more per month with AutoPay, plus taxes and fees, depending on the offer. Read the detailed terms.
For a switcher, calculate the additional plan cost over 36 months. A phone discount is not a saving if the required service costs substantially more than an equivalent plan you would have chosen anyway.
AT&T
Tom’s Guide reported an AT&T offer making the S26 Ultra free after bill credits with an eligible trade-in and qualifying unlimited plan. Before relying on it, confirm the exact trade-in models, whether existing customers qualify, the credit duration, whether a new line or upgrade is required, and what happens if you leave AT&T.
AT&T is a strong candidate for an existing customer with a high-value trade-in who already intends to remain on an eligible unlimited plan. It is not an unconditional free phone.

Verizon
Tom’s Guide reported a free S26 Ultra after bill credits with an eligible trade-in and a new Unlimited Ultimate plan. Verify the current plan price, trade-in tier, credit period, new-line or upgrade requirement, and activation, upgrade or device-payment fees on Verizon’s current listing.
Verizon can make sense for a switcher who already wants Unlimited Ultimate. It is a poor bargain if the required plan is materially more expensive than your current equivalent service or if you regularly change carriers.
Xfinity Mobile
Xfinity Mobile was reported to offer up to $1,100 off with trade-in, with smaller discounts possible without one. The value is most relevant to an existing Xfinity internet household that already qualifies for Xfinity Mobile. Confirm whether the credit is immediate or installment-based, whether the offer differs for new and existing customers, and what mobile plan is required.
Joining Xfinity internet or mobile solely to obtain the handset discount is usually risky. Include the cost of the required service, switching limitations and coverage in your comparison.
How to calculate the true value
Use this formula for any offer:
Effective cost = handset price + tax + activation or connection fees + required incremental service cost − guaranteed discount − usable gift-card value − realistic trade-in value.
Best Value
- 6.8" Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate, up to ~1750 nits brightness, HDR10+ support, and ultra-smooth responsiveness for gaming and scrolling.
For a carrier promotion, use:
Net carrier cost = required plan cost during the credit period − the cost of your current equivalent service + phone payments, taxes, fees and any payoff exposure.
Subtract only the service cost you would genuinely incur because of the purchase. Do not count the entire advertised carrier discount if the offer requires extra lines, a more expensive plan or a trade-in with an outstanding balance.
Worked example
Suppose a carrier finances a $1,299.99 phone and offsets most of it with 36 monthly credits. The device may show a near-zero monthly payment, but you still owe taxes on the pre-credit price and may pay a connection fee. If you leave after 12 months, the remaining credits may stop while the unpaid device balance remains due. Samsung’s $250 instant discount, by contrast, would reduce the phone price immediately when that promotion is active, without the carrier-credit risk.
Deals I would skip
- A “free” phone requiring a substantially more expensive plan than your current equivalent service.
- A promotion requiring multiple new lines when you need only one.
- A gift card you are unlikely to use.
- A high trade-in credit that requires giving up a cheaper plan or paying off an existing device.
- A bill-credit offer if you expect to upgrade, pay off the phone or change carriers before the credits finish.
- A retailer listing whose carrier-lock or activation status is unclear.
Which deal should you choose?
- Want unlocked service and have a premium trade-in? Start with Samsung and compare its live quote with a private-sale value.
- Want unlocked service with no trade-in? Take Samsung’s instant discount if the replacement promotion is active; otherwise compare the effective value of retailer gift cards.
- Already on a qualifying carrier plan? A carrier credit can be excellent if you will stay for the full term.
- Switching carriers only for the phone? Compare 36 months of incremental plan cost before accepting a “free” offer.
- Already have Xfinity internet? Check Xfinity Mobile’s current trade-in and service requirements.
- Still financing your old phone? Confirm the payoff obligation before trading it in.
Galaxy S26 Ultra deal checklist
- Confirm whether the offer applies to 256GB, 512GB or both.
- Confirm that the exact phone is unlocked if that matters to you.
- Read whether the benefit is an instant discount, bill credit, gift card or subscription bonus.
- Get the exact trade-in quote for your model and condition.
- Check for cracked screens, liquid damage, account locks and shipping deadlines.
- Calculate taxes, activation or connection fees and any required extra lines.
- Read the early-cancellation and early-payoff language.
- Confirm gift-card delivery timing and return-policy conditions.
- Photograph and factory-reset any trade-in, then retain tracking information.
Offer timing
Samsung’s recent offer page listed a promotion ending August 16, 2026. That window should be treated as expired unless Samsung has replaced it with a new promotion. Galaxy discounts can change with inventory, storage tier, color and seasonal campaigns, so the price shown at checkout—not an old deal headline—is the one to use.
Future seasonal, Black Friday, holiday or successor-related discounts may improve the price, but the available evidence does not establish a reliable date or amount. If you need the phone now, choose the offer whose savings and obligations you can calculate today rather than waiting for an uncertain promotion.
