HigherU’s proposed tools included AI-assisted tutoring, an interview-readiness score and employer access to candidates. Those were the company’s plans and claims at the time; the available sources do not establish whether the service launched as planned or remains available today.
What is the inspiration behind HigherU?
TechBullion introduced Williams as a New York University computer science graduate with a decade of software engineering experience. In the August 10, 2023 interview, he said that working as both an educator and an interviewer showed him a gap between what universities taught and what technical interviews expected. “Having been both an educator and interviewer myself, I noticed the disparity between what universities taught and what tech interviews actually required,” he said.
Williams framed HigherU as support for students after they finish coursework: “Our aim at HigherU is to fill the void with post-course completion.” The idea was to help students apply what they had learned to practical problems and prepare for the move from study into technology work—not to replace university education.
How did HigherU say it used AI?
SmartTA for personalized support
Williams described SmartTA as a feature offering personalized, round-the-clock guidance through complex problems. He said its purpose was to support understanding rather than memorization, with practical application intended to strengthen students’ relationship with the material, recall and confidence. These were Williams’s descriptions of the product and its intended effects, not independently measured outcomes. “We’ve created a feature called the SmartTA, which provides students with personalized, 24/7 support,” he said.

What the sources do—and do not—establish
A July 31, 2023 company press release announcing a closed beta also described tailored lessons and Smart TA. The release does not provide enough detail to assess how the AI produced its guidance, what material it covered, or how its performance compared with other preparation methods.
What was the Readiness Score?
Williams presented the Readiness Score as a student-facing indication of interview preparedness, including a comparison with candidates accepted at top-tier companies. He also said employers could use a portal to find candidates with readiness scores. “The Readiness Score is a two-pronged effort that aids both students and potential employers,” he said.

The interview does not explain the score’s inputs, validation, or predictive performance. It should therefore be understood as a feature HigherU described—not as an independently validated measure of interview ability or a guarantee of employment.
What did HigherU report about results?
The 2023 company press release reported an approximately 60% average improvement within three months and a 75% correlation between the Readiness Score and job-placement success. These are company-reported figures. The accessed release text does not state the sample size or population, define “improvement,” or explain the scoring and correlation methods. The numbers do not establish that the platform caused better placement outcomes or that the results would apply to students generally.

What did students, universities and employers stand to gain?
Williams said the platform was meant to build confidence for students and universities, help universities provide more practical education, and give employers access to prepared candidates. His answer to what he hoped students and universities would gain was simply: “Confidence.” In this model, a university could help students extend classroom learning into interview practice, while employers might use the portal to discover candidates. The interview describes these as intended benefits; it does not document outcomes for named partner schools or employers.

In the 2023 interview, Williams’s five-year ambition was for HigherU to become a go-to platform worldwide, help universities improve placement rates, and streamline employer recruitment. He also described the company as being “on a mission to revolutionize interview preparation.” These statements record a vision expressed in 2023, not evidence that the goals were achieved.

The July 2023 press release said HigherU planned a full launch in Q1 2024 after its closed beta. The available sources do not confirm whether that launch occurred or establish the platform’s current operating status. Williams’s comments are best read as a dated account of the company’s purpose and plans, rather than a current service recommendation.
