No. Your business does not need to use AI to justify Dedicated Internet Access (DIA), and using AI does not automatically mean you need DIA. The decision comes down to your connection requirements: whether congestion, upload capacity, latency, outages, or the lack of contractual service commitments put important work at risk.
What Dedicated Internet Access provides
DIA is an internet circuit with bandwidth reserved for one customer rather than shared with nearby customers. That can make performance more predictable during busy periods. Business DIA commonly offers symmetrical upload and download speeds, plus a service-level agreement (SLA) covering some combination of availability, latency, packet loss, jitter, or repair. The exact commitments depend on the provider, location, and plan.

For example, Verizon describes dedicated connectivity with symmetrical speeds and SLA measures, while Comcast describes its dedicated internet service as unshared and advertises a 99.99% availability SLA on its current product page (accessed 2026). That is a provider-specific claim, not a guarantee that every DIA plan has the same SLA. Spectrum likewise describes DIA as reserving bandwidth for one customer.

AI workloads can increase the amount of data a business moves and make steady, low-delay connectivity more valuable. That matters most when a business regularly sends large datasets, runs time-sensitive applications, coordinates AI services across sites or cloud environments, or depends on continuous access to AI-enabled systems. The internet circuit is only one part of that architecture: routing, cloud or data-center connections, security, and the workload itself also affect performance.

- Next-gen Dual Band router - 300 Mbps on 2. 4 GHz (802. 11n) plus 1201 Mbps on 5 GHz (802. 11ax)
- Connect more devices than ever before - Wi-Fi 6 technology simultaneously communicates more data to more devices using OFDMA and MU-MIMO while reducing lag dramatically
- Powerful Dual-Core 900MHz Processor – Handles multiple data streams simultaneously for reliable performance across your devices. Ensures smooth streaming, online gaming, and video conferencing without buffering or lag.
AI can also make security and visibility more important. Comcast identifies high throughput, low latency, application-aware traffic prioritization, network observability, and threat detection among relevant considerations for AI deployments. Its connectivity page says its monitoring analyzes 10,000 data points on 30 million network devices every 60 minutes; that is a description of Comcast’s monitoring, not a performance measure or SLA for a customer’s circuit. The practical point is that an AI label alone tells you little about the internet service you need. Measure the workload and its business impact.
How to decide whether DIA is worth pricing
Use these questions to connect the network choice to operational and financial risk:
Rank #2
- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
- Do important applications suffer when the connection is congested or variable? Review outages, slowdowns, call quality, transaction delays, and user complaints. Look at when problems occur, not just the average speed in a quiet period.
- Is upload capacity as important as download capacity? Large data transfers, backups, video collaboration, and model or data pipelines can make upload performance a constraint. Symmetrical service may help where the workload genuinely uses both directions; it is not automatically necessary just because a company uses AI.
- Do you need contractual performance or recovery commitments? If an outage or sustained degradation would materially affect revenue, safety, compliance, or customer service, ask providers what availability, latency, packet-loss, and repair terms they will put in the SLA.
- Do offices, cloud regions, data centers, or remote users need controlled routing? If traffic must be managed across several locations or links, compare DIA with a broader design that may include SD-WAN, private cloud connectivity, or managed security.
- What is the financial cost of failure? Compare the full recurring and setup costs of DIA with the expected cost of interruptions, degraded work, or a backup connection. Include the cost of any separate monitoring, security, or network-management services rather than judging the circuit on its advertised speed alone.
If several answers point to material business risk, request DIA quotes and compare the actual SLAs. If the connection is not a bottleneck and an interruption is manageable, shared business broadband with a tested backup may be the more proportionate option. There is no universal bandwidth threshold or AI-specific internet plan that applies to every business.

- Next-Gen Gigabit Wi-Fi 6 Speeds: 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz bands ensure smoother streaming and faster downloads; support VPN server and VPN client¹
- A More Responsive Experience: Enjoy smooth gaming, video streaming, and live feeds simultaneously. OFDMA makes your Wi-Fi stronger by allowing multiple clients to share one band at the same time, cutting latency and jitter.²
- Expanded Wi-Fi Coverage: 4 high-gain external antennas and Beamforming technology combine to extend strong, reliable, Wi-Fi throughout your home.
- Improved Battery Life: Target Wake Time helps your devices to communicate efficiently while consuming less power.
- Improved Cooling Design: No heat ups, no throttles. A larger heat sink and redefined case design cools the WiFi 6 system and enables your network to stay at top speeds in more versatile environments.
- Bandwidth: committed upload and download speeds, whether they are symmetrical, and how the provider handles scaling.
- Performance commitments: the definitions and targets for availability, latency, jitter, and packet loss, along with what counts as an SLA breach.
- Repair and resilience: response and repair commitments, route diversity, and what happens if the primary circuit fails.
- Security and visibility: whether DDoS protection, threat monitoring, traffic analytics, or a service portal is included or costs extra.
- Connectivity beyond the internet circuit: options for cloud or data-center interconnection, and whether those links are included or separately provisioned.
- Delivery and total cost: installation lead time, setup charges, recurring charges, contract terms, and the price of add-ons needed to meet your requirements.
Provider claims vary by geography and plan, so a headline speed or availability figure is not a substitute for the SLA and a coverage confirmation. As one example of the range being marketed, Lumen’s current DIA page advertises speeds up to 100 Gbps; that is a provider maximum, not a promise of availability at a particular address. An IDC survey from August 2025, as reproduced in Cisco’s 2025 spotlight, found about 28% of respondents planned to add additional DIA for bandwidth capacity. That indicates a demand trend among surveyed respondents, not a requirement for every AI-using business.

SD-WAN for multiple sites or links
Managed SD-WAN can apply application policies and steer traffic over DIA, broadband, or cellular connections. It may be useful when a business needs to manage several sites or paths, but it is not a prerequisite for using DIA or AI.

Private cloud and data-center connectivity for large deployments
Enterprise-scale AI systems may need more than an internet access circuit, such as private cloud connections, wavelength transport, Ethernet between sites, or connectivity to data centers and GPU services. Spectrum’s AI Accelerator and Verizon AI Connect describe services aimed at these kinds of larger architectures; they should not be treated as default requirements for a small or midsize business simply because it uses AI.
