What you can pay for with PayPal
In the documented North American and UK/European markets, PayPal can be used either to add money to the Nintendo eShop balance or to buy Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch software. Adding funds puts money in the eShop wallet first; a purchase can then use that balance. Nintendo’s instructions describe PayPal as an option in the eShop’s funds menu.

How to link PayPal in the documented North American market
- Open the Nintendo eShop on your console and choose the account you want to use.
- Start the PayPal linking option in the eShop. Scan the QR code shown on screen with a smart device.
- Sign in to your Nintendo Account, choose the option to link PayPal, then sign in to PayPal or create an account.
- Choose a funding source already on file with PayPal, agree to PayPal’s policies, and confirm the link on the console.
If you completed the online linking steps but have not yet confirmed the link on the console, Nintendo advises waiting before trying PayPal again. The exact screens may vary by region.
How to add eShop funds with PayPal
- Open the eShop and select the Nintendo Account you want to fund.
- Go to Account Information, then select Add Funds.
- Choose PayPal, link the account if prompted, and select an amount.
Nintendo’s North American support instructions list maximum eShop balances of $800 USD, $1,100 CAD, or $5,000 MXN for the respective U.S., Canadian, and Mexican eShops. These are wallet balance caps, not PayPal transaction limits. Nintendo also says a credit card used for a North American eShop must have been issued in the same country as that eShop. See Nintendo’s instructions for adding funds.
