Published accounts say participants are not paid to appear on Love on the Spectrum. Cast member Kaelynn Partlow said she was told in advance she would not be paid, and creator and executive producer Cian O’Clery has likewise said cast members are not compensated. O’Clery said production covers featured dates and transportation. Netflix did not answer The Guardian’s 2025 questions about nonpayment, so this is a reported production practice—not a payment policy Netflix has publicly confirmed.
What has been reported about cast pay?
Kaelynn Partlow, a participant in Season 1, told TV Insider that she was not paid for appearing and that she knew the arrangement beforehand: “They were very upfront about that being the case. It wasn’t a surprise.” The account was published April 21, 2025. TV Insider’s report
Cian O’Clery, the series’ creator and executive producer, has also said participants are not compensated for appearing. In a Parade interview published April 11, 2024, he said: “People aren’t left out of pocket by being part of the experience, that’s all I can say.” Parade’s interview with O’Clery
Together, those accounts support the answer that cast members have not been paid an appearance fee, based on the public statements cited. They do not establish the exact terms of every participant’s agreement.

Who pays for dates and transportation?
O’Clery said production pays for dates and transportation. That is distinct from paying cast members for their time or appearance: covering those costs does not amount to wages or a talent fee. His statement does not itemize every participant expense, so it should not be read as a promise that production covers all costs associated with taking part.
Is this a Netflix payment policy?
The public comments describe the production’s reported practice; they do not show that Netflix directly contracts with or pays each participant. Love on the Spectrum is produced by Northern Pictures and streamed internationally by Netflix. Northern Pictures has described the show’s approach as focused on respectful, authentic storytelling, but that statement does not confirm compensation terms. The Guardian’s May 17, 2025 report says Netflix declined to answer its questions about nonpayment.

Accordingly, it is more precise to say that participants have reportedly not been compensated for appearing than to state that Netflix has confirmed a formal policy not to pay them.

Public reporting cited here does not confirm whether the arrangement changed for Seasons 4 or 5. Netflix announced Season 5 in 2026, but a renewal announcement is not evidence of what participants are paid or which costs production covers. Without a season-specific statement, the reported terms should not be presented as verified for every season.
