No official JPMorganChase source reviewed confirms that the bank spends $2 billion annually on AI. The $2 billion figure in Jamie Dimon’s 2023 shareholder letter refers to building four new U.S. data centers—not a recurring AI budget. His 2025 letter describes AI as a company-wide priority but does not put an annual price tag on it.
Did Jamie Dimon reveal a $2 billion annual AI budget?
No. JPMorganChase’s 2023, 2024 and 2025 shareholder letters do not substantiate a $2 billion-per-year AI spending figure. The company’s 2025 annual report, filed with the SEC on April 6, 2026, covers the year ended December 31, 2025; it does not change the distinction between the documented data-center figure and an unconfirmed annual AI budget.
The source of the $2 billion figure is Dimon’s 2023 shareholder letter, which says the firm invested approximately $2 billion to build four new U.S. data centers. That is a construction investment. The letter does not describe it as an annual expense or identify the full amount as AI spending. JPMorganChase 2023 shareholder letter
What JPMorgan has disclosed about AI
2025: AI across the business, without an annual budget
In his 2025 annual shareholder letter, Dimon said, “AI will affect virtually every function, application and process in the company.” He described deploying AI to improve work for customers and employees, but the letter gives no annual AI budget. JPMorganChase 2025 shareholder letter

2024: AI capabilities, no confirmation of $2 billion a year
The 2024 annual letter discusses JPMorgan’s AI capabilities and investment in AI, but does not validate the claim that the firm spends $2 billion annually on it. JPMorganChase 2024 shareholder letter
2026: adoption and how technology benefits are assessed
In a 2026 company-update Q&A, Dimon said 150,000 employees used the firm’s language-model platform weekly. That is his statement in the transcript, not an independently audited productivity measure. He also said the firm assessed AI and technology initiatives through outcomes such as revenue enhancement, cost avoidance, and risk and fraud results. JPMorganChase 2026 company-update transcript
Dimon noted that employee-reported time savings were not included in the net-present-value assessment he described. The transcript also refers to 6,000 applications the firm runs; that is not a count of AI applications. JPMorganChase 2026 company-update transcript

A data-center construction investment and an annual AI budget are different kinds of figures. Construction spending funds infrastructure; an annual AI budget would need to identify the amount, time period, and spending attributed to AI. The documented $2 billion figure does not establish those details for AI. JPMorgan’s letters show that AI is a significant company-wide priority, but the official disclosures cited here do not provide a comparable annual total.
