Its Terms of Service, last updated September 14, 2026, also say profile content may not contain nudity or sexually explicit subject matter as Gumroad determines in its sole discretion. The terms state that existing accounts are bound by those changes on October 14, 2026, and reserve broad discretion to remove content, suspend accounts, or end access.
In practical terms, creators should not rely on the 2019 allowance for tagged erotic prose, comics, or illustrations when deciding whether a product meets Gumroad’s current policy. “NSFW” covers many kinds of material, and the available reporting does not show that every product or creator received the same treatment.
Why did Gumroad restrict adult content?

Sex education and kink instruction
Kink educator and writer Sleepingirl told TechCrunch that concern extended beyond art and erotic entertainment. She worried that prohibiting sexual coaching or explicit instructional content could affect discussion of safe sex and kink practices, as well as her income. These were her concerns about the policy’s potential reach, not evidence that all such educational work was removed or that every creator experienced the same outcome.
What does Gumroad charge, and what does that mean for creators?
Gumroad’s pricing page, checked October 8, 2026, lists a 10% plus $0.50 fee per transaction for sales through a creator profile or direct links, and a 30% fee for sales through Discover. Those are current platform fees, not a calculation of what adult creators lost because of the policy change. A fee comparison also cannot answer whether a particular alternative allows a creator’s content or can serve their customers.

Where can NSFW creators sell their work?
TechCrunch reported in March 2024 that JustForFans invited affected NSFW artists and added an artwork category. That is a dated report, not confirmation of the platform’s current eligibility rules, fees, payout availability, or suitability for any particular creator.
