How DoorDash handles snow
DoorDash says it monitors live weather and local-authority guidance when deciding how to operate in affected areas. Its January 23, 2026 Severe Weather Protocol announcement says the company can adjust or suspend operations in an area during extreme weather.
Possible responses include sending real-time alerts to Dashers, limiting customers to pickup when walking to collect an order is safe but driving is not, or temporarily suspending a market when road travel is unsafe. DoorDash says it can reopen an area when conditions are safe. These are the company’s descriptions of its procedures, not an independent assessment of how they perform in every storm.
There is no published snowfall depth or fixed road-condition threshold that determines whether deliveries stop. A storm’s effect can differ between nearby areas, so a general policy cannot tell you whether DoorDash is serving your address at a particular moment.

How to check whether DoorDash is delivering to you
- Open the DoorDash app and enter the delivery address you want to use.
- Check which restaurants or stores are accepting orders and whether the app offers delivery, pickup, or both.
- Review the current delivery estimate before placing an order. Availability and timing can change as weather and Dasher availability change.
The app’s options for your address are more useful than a general statement about DoorDash service. DoorDash’s public information does not provide live availability for individual addresses or promise a maximum delay.
Why a snow-day order may take longer
An order can be accepted while weather or traffic is worsening, and then take longer than the initial estimate. DoorDash says offer frequency depends in part on supply-and-demand factors, including weather. Fewer available Dashers relative to orders can affect how quickly an order is picked up, while changing road conditions can affect the trip.

DoorDash says Dasher app ETAs are designed for safe completion and that there is no reward for arriving early. An estimate is not a reason for a Dasher to rush or drive in unsafe conditions.
What to do if your order is delayed by snow
Check the order’s current status and information in the app. DoorDash’s U.S. Dasher guidance recommends that a Dasher contact the customer to explain a weather- or traffic-related delay and says the Dasher does not need to contact support for that situation. If you need help with your specific order, use the in-app order information; the published guidance does not promise a particular remedy or revised delivery time.

DoorDash also says its rating fairness protections automatically remove customer ratings below five stars in certain circumstances, including extreme weather. That statement concerns the customer rating described on its Dasher Ratings Explained page; it should not be read as saying every snow-related late delivery is excused from every performance measure or that all markets follow identical policies.
Could snow add a fee?
Possibly, but not in every storm or market. DoorDash describes its Weather Impact Fee as a pilot: a temporary fee on customer orders may fund Peak Pay for Dashers in affected areas, in addition to base pay and tips. DoorDash says it may apply when demand substantially exceeds the available Dasher supply but roads are still safe; the fee ends automatically when conditions improve. If conditions become hazardous, DoorDash may suspend operations instead.

Whether a fee applies is specific to the market and event. Check the charges shown in the app before placing an order rather than assuming a snowstorm will—or will not—add one. DoorDash’s Weather Impact Fee help page describes the pilot and its stated conditions.

DoorDash advises Dashers to use caution, inspect vehicle safety features, and stop dashing if they feel uncomfortable or unsafe. Pickup-only service or a temporary suspension are safety measures; there is no expectation in the company’s stated guidance that Dashers should drive through hazardous conditions to complete an order.
