No. A Steam gift card or Wallet Code is not guaranteed to work in every country. Steam limits Wallet Code redemption to the currency of the recipient’s Steam Wallet, so check the recipient’s wallet currency and the specific card’s terms before buying. A digital Steam Gift Card, a retail card, and a gift of a specific game are different options with different restrictions.
Can I use a Steam gift card from another country?
Not necessarily. Steam’s Steam Wallet FAQ says Wallet Codes can be redeemed only in the currency of the recipient’s Steam Wallet. That currency rule means you should not assume a card purchased in one country will work for an account in another. Check the card’s stated currency or country terms against the recipient’s wallet currency before paying.

Steam does not publish a universal compatibility rate or a list proving that every card works in every country. Its FAQ says existing physical gift cards remain usable subject to local laws, but that statement is not a guarantee of cross-country redemption.
What is the difference between a card and a Steam game gift?

Choose a Wallet gift when the recipient wants funds to spend on eligible purchases; choose a game gift when you know the specific title they want and have checked its territory list. The currency rule for Wallet Codes and country restrictions for game gifts are separate rules.

Can I send a Steam gift card to someone in another country?
You can consider Steam’s digital gift card, but verify that the specific transaction is available for the recipient before relying on it. For a physical card or Wallet Code, compare its terms with the recipient’s Steam Wallet currency; a cross-country purchase is not automatically compatible. Steam says it continues to offer digital gift cards and is ending retail physical gift cards.
Steam says it will no longer sell physical gift cards, expects retailers to be out of stock by the end of 2026, and allows existing cards to be used subject to local laws. Does a gift card change the recipient’s Steam Store country?
No. A Wallet Code adds funds; it does not set or change the account’s Store country. Steam says the Store country must match where the user currently resides, and changing it after moving requires a purchase using a local payment method. Steam also limits Store-country changes to once every three months. Details are in Steam Store Country.

No. Do not try to bypass country or currency restrictions with a VPN or proxy. Steam says disguising your location to redeem a region-restricted game gift violates its terms and may result in account restrictions. It also says purchases made through anonymous proxies are declined and attempts to evade regional pricing or content restrictions are forbidden.
