A remote is an optional accessory—not a requirement. What works depends on whether you have a Kindle e-reader, a Kindle app, or a particular model generation.
Ways to turn pages without buying a remote
Tap or swipe the screen
On a Kindle e-reader, tap the screen or swipe to move through a book. Kindle apps also support page navigation; Amazon lists continuous scrolling and portrait or landscape orientation as alternatives for reading comfort. Amazon’s overview of Kindle accessibility features describes these options.
Use volume buttons in Kindle apps
Amazon says volume controls can turn pages in Kindle for Android and on Fire tablets. This guidance applies to those apps and tablets; it does not establish that volume buttons turn pages on every Kindle e-reader.
Use switch access on a Fire tablet
Fire tablets support switch access, which can let compatible Bluetooth devices navigate and interact with the tablet, including turning Kindle book pages. This is a tablet accessibility feature, not a general Bluetooth-remote function for Kindle e-readers.

Can you double-tap a Kindle to advance a page?
Amazon documents a Double Tap setting for the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition and Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition (12th Generation), both released in 2024. On a supported device, open All Settings > Device Options, turn on Double tap, then tap twice quickly anywhere on the side or back of the Kindle while reading.
Amazon says it tested the feature with official Kindle Colorsoft and Paperwhite cases, but warns it may not work with every third-party case. If double-tapping does not advance the page, check the setting and try without the case before assuming the Kindle is unsupported. See Amazon’s Double Tap instructions and supported models.

Which Kindle remotes are available, and what should you check?
| Option | How it turns pages | Compatibility to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Kindle Click | Reported Bluetooth page-turn remote | T3 reported on October 1, 2026, that it works with Kindle e-readers released from 2024 onward. The official listing and model support were not established in the sources available for this article. |
| Clip-on screen-sensor remote | A clip-on sensor touches the display when triggered by a separate remote | Depends on the accessory and Kindle model. One Amazon-hosted manual excludes some older Kindles, including Kindle 7 and 8; that warning applies to that product, not every clip-on remote. |
| Built-in controls | Touchscreen, Double Tap on supported models, or physical buttons on some Oasis models | Check the exact device generation and feature support. Some older Kindle Oasis generations already have physical page-turn buttons. |
Kindle Click: confirm the live listing first
T3 reported that Amazon introduced Kindle Click in October 2026 and described it as compatible with Kindle e-readers made from 2024 onward. The report also mentions dedicated side buttons for brightness and a sleep function. That compatibility information is secondary-source reporting: the official Amazon sources cited here do not verify the current product listing, availability by region, or support for a specific model. Before buying, check Amazon’s live listing for the exact Kindle model and market.
Read T3’s report on the Kindle family refresh.
Clip-on remotes: check the sensor and model list
A clip-on sensor has to contact the touchscreen, so placement matters: confirm that it fits the display without blocking text or controls. Read the particular accessory’s supported-model list, not just a generic claim that it works with Kindle. The manual for one such page turner, hosted on Amazon, names older Kindles and Kindle 7/8 among unsupported devices. Check that accessory’s manual before purchasing.

How to identify your Kindle model before buying
- Swipe down from the top of the Kindle screen and open All Settings.
- Select Device Options > Device Info to find device details.
- Use Amazon’s Kindle identification guide to compare the model’s distinguishing features.
- Match the exact model and generation against the remote maker’s support list or Amazon’s current product listing.
Amazon notes that not every Kindle generation has been available in every marketplace, so model names and availability can vary by geography.

Which option makes sense for your device?
- Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition or Paperwhite Signature Edition (12th Generation): Try Double Tap before buying an accessory.
- Another Kindle e-reader: Use touch controls or built-in physical buttons if your model has them; check a remote’s exact compatibility before purchase.
- Kindle app on Android or a Fire tablet: Check the app’s volume-button page-turn option. Fire tablets also support compatible switch-access devices.
- Unsure which model you own: Identify its generation before shopping, especially for a Bluetooth or screen-sensor accessory.
