GameStop says online preorders are not guaranteed to arrive on release day. An order may ship on or after the official release date, and GameStop says delivery 1–3 days after release can happen. Shipping on launch day does not mean the package will reach you that day.
What GameStop’s preorder policy means
GameStop’s U.S. shipping guidance says preorders ship when the item is released, while its delay guidance says an order may ship on or after the official release date. GameStop states directly: “Pre-ordering online does NOT guarantee delivery on release day.” Its help page says an order may arrive 1–3 days after release; that is guidance about what can happen, not an average, guarantee, or measured delivery rate.

The key distinction is shipment versus delivery: a package can leave GameStop on release day and still arrive later, depending on fulfillment and carrier timing.
Why an online preorder might arrive late
- The release date changed: If the publisher or manufacturer revises the launch date, GameStop says the order follows the updated timeline.
- The manufacturer shipment is late: GameStop identifies late supply from the manufacturer as a possible cause.
- Fulfillment or carrier delays: Processing slowdowns or carrier timing can affect when the package reaches you.
How to check a delayed preorder
- Open your GameStop account and check the order status for the specific item.
- Confirm the current official release date and look for any notice that it changed.
- If the order has shipped, use its tracking information for the latest carrier updates. If it is still processing or marked delayed, follow the order status for updates.
- Contact GameStop support if several days have passed without a status update and no release delay is indicated.
Does store pickup arrive on release day?
Buy Online, Pick Up In Store may be available for some items and locations, but availability is not universal. If you select pickup, wait for GameStop’s “Ready for Pick Up” email before going to the store; a preorder or expected release date alone is not confirmation that the item is ready.

Can GameStop split a preorder into separate shipments?
Yes. Items with different release dates may ship separately and may incur separate shipping charges. An item already released and a preorder in the same order may also be sent in separate shipments.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to expect
For an online GameStop preorder, plan for delivery after launch rather than relying on release-day arrival. Use the order’s current status and tracking for the item-specific update. GameStop’s guidance is policy information, not a published on-time delivery rate, and the retailer’s U.S. pages note that order-specific tracking and checkout availability control for an individual purchase.
