Short answer: Discord’s IPO plans are a real reported development, but the company is not yet publicly traded. Bloomberg reported on January 6, 2026, that Discord had confidentially filed for a U.S. initial public offering, and Reuters followed with the same account. No public S-1, ticker, price range, final valuation or listing date had been identified in available reporting through August 16, 2026. Discord could still delay or abandon the deal.
What Discord has actually done
The latest reported step is a confidential draft IPO filing, not a completed public offering. Bloomberg reported that Discord submitted the filing, citing people familiar with the matter; Reuters later reported the same development and said deliberations remained ongoing. See Bloomberg’s January 6 report and Reuters’ follow-up.
A confidential submission lets a company work through Securities and Exchange Commission comments before publishing detailed financial statements and risk factors. It is reversible. Discord would still need to make a public filing, amend it during SEC review, set terms, price the shares and begin trading.
The IPO status ladder
| Stage | What it means for Discord |
|---|---|
| Bank discussions | Management is exploring a listing and talking with potential advisers or underwriters. |
| Confidential draft registration statement | A private draft has reportedly been submitted to the SEC. This is the stage reported in January 2026. |
| Public S-1 | Investors can read the company’s financial statements, risks, share structure and planned use of proceeds. |
| Effective registration statement | The SEC process is sufficiently complete for the offering to proceed, subject to final pricing. |
| Pricing and trading | Discord and its underwriters set an IPO price, allocate shares and establish the first trading day. |
Discord has not reached the last four stages in the available reporting.

Discord’s reported IPO timeline
- March 2025: Bloomberg reported that Discord was working with Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan on a possible listing and could seek an IPO as soon as that year. The report did not make a listing inevitable. Read the March 26 Bloomberg account.
- January 6–7, 2026: Bloomberg reported the confidential U.S. filing, followed by Reuters’ report and Discord-related comments.
- March 2026: An earlier possible debut window passed without a public listing.
- July–August 2026: Secondary reporting still had not identified a public S-1, ticker, price range, roadshow or confirmed date. A July status summary is available from Curved Trading. Its account is secondary reporting, not an SEC or Discord announcement.
Therefore, descriptions such as “Discord is going public in 2026” or “the IPO is scheduled for March” go beyond the evidence.
What Discord does and how large it is
Discord provides voice, video and text communication through servers and communities. It began with a strong gaming and streaming audience and now serves developers, creators, interest groups and other online communities.
Reuters said Discord cited more than 200 million monthly active users in a December statement. Monthly users are not the same as daily users, paying subscribers, revenue or profitable customers. User count alone cannot establish an IPO valuation.
Potential revenue engines
- Nitro: paid subscriptions that add premium features and higher limits.
- Community monetization: tools that may help servers, creators or communities earn money.
- Commercial partnerships and advertising: possible growth areas, although the reported filing story does not establish a specific advertising plan.
- Gaming and ecosystem relationships: Discord’s historical position among gamers, developers and streamers.
Sacra estimated Discord’s annual recurring revenue at about $600 million in 2023 and $725 million at the end of 2024, and said the company had raised roughly $1 billion. Those are third-party estimates, not audited financial statements. See Sacra’s report.

What is known about Discord’s valuation?
There is no confirmed IPO valuation. The available reference points come from different kinds of private-market data and should not be treated as interchangeable.
| Reference point | What it represents | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Approximately $14.7 billion–$15.2 billion in 2021 | Discord’s last major private financing valuation, depending on the source and calculation. | Historical private-round pricing, not a current public-market value. |
| Approximately $8.53 billion on July 8, 2026 | Forge’s implied private-market valuation. | A secondary-market indication, not an IPO valuation or official company mark. |
| $31.31 on July 8, 2026 | Forge Price shown for Discord shares. | Private-share indication; availability, eligibility, transfer terms and fees vary. |
Forge’s figures are reported at Forge Global. The difference between the 2021 financing reference and the later Forge indication may suggest a private-market valuation reset, but it does not predict what public investors would pay. Private transactions can include illiquidity discounts, preferred-share rights, company-transfer restrictions and stale or model-derived prices.

Why Discord might pursue an IPO—and why it might not
Possible reasons to list
- Raise capital for infrastructure, product development, safety, moderation and international expansion.
- Provide liquidity for employees and early investors.
- Create publicly traded shares that could support acquisitions or employee compensation.
- Take advantage of a favorable market for technology offerings.
These are common IPO objectives, not stated reasons from Discord in the reported filing coverage.
Reasons the process could slow or stop
- Volatile markets or weak investor demand for comparable consumer-internet companies.
- A valuation below Discord’s 2021 private-market peak.
- SEC comments and the time needed to revise financial disclosures.
- Unresolved questions about revenue growth, profitability, cash burn and user monetization.
- Trust-and-safety, age-verification, privacy, moderation and regulatory exposure.
- Management or strategic changes before the company is ready to market shares.
Both Bloomberg and Reuters emphasized that Discord could postpone or abandon the listing.

A listing could increase pressure to grow revenue, improve margins and show predictable results to shareholders. That might eventually influence Nitro pricing, advertising, paid features, moderation spending or product priorities. The reported confidential filing, however, provides no evidence that any particular change is planned.
Users should not assume that an IPO will automatically add ads, put existing features behind a paywall or change moderation. Those outcomes would depend on decisions disclosed by Discord later.

What private-share buyers should know
A confidential filing does not guarantee liquidity. Private Discord shares may be unavailable, subject to company approval or restricted to eligible investors. Different share classes can have different rights, and employees or early investors could face lockups after any eventual listing.
Forge is one possible source of private-market information and access, but its indication is not a public quote or assurance that shares can be purchased. Check eligibility, accreditation requirements, minimums, fees, transfer restrictions and availability directly with Forge. Ordinary retail investors cannot currently buy Discord through a public stock ticker because no listing has been confirmed.
What would make the story official?
Watch for these concrete developments:
- A Discord announcement or an SEC-filed public S-1.
- Published financial statements and risk factors.
- A disclosed ticker and exchange.
- An expected price range and share count.
- An investor roadshow and an effective registration statement.
- A final IPO price and first trading date.
Until those steps occur, the most accurate description is that Discord has reportedly taken a concrete but still reversible step toward a possible IPO.
The Bottom Line
Discord has reportedly filed confidentially for a U.S. IPO after working with Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan, but it remains a private company. No public valuation, ticker, price range or listing date has been confirmed, and the company can still delay or abandon the offering.
