Discern Security launched an AI-powered security policy-management platform in September 2023, positioning it as a way for organizations to coordinate security controls across their existing tools. Its current product description adds a set of specialized AI agents for analyzing posture, prioritizing work and coordinating approved remediation. The company disclosed a $13 million Series A in July 2026; its reported starting price remains the $5,000 figure from 2023, with no billing period specified.

What is Discern Security?

Discern Security is a California cybersecurity startup focused on security policy and configuration management across multiple products. Rather than replace an organization’s security tools, the platform is designed to connect their data, show how controls are configured, identify gaps, and help teams decide what to address.

That makes its central proposition a coordination layer for a fragmented security stack: give security leaders a broader view of controls and risk, while giving analysts and engineers workflows to investigate findings and act on them.

How does the platform work?

Discern describes a continuous “Security Loop”: connect tools and policy data, add organizational context, prioritize risks, coordinate remediation, and measure improvement. The aim is to make security controls work together rather than leave teams to interpret separate dashboards and configurations in isolation.

  • Connect and visualize: Bring security-tool information together and make configurations and coverage visible.
  • Assess: Check controls against vendor best practices and identify gaps or areas of weak coverage.
  • Add context: Relate findings to assets, applications, exposure, and business priorities.
  • Prioritize and act: Help teams choose remediation work and coordinate tickets, deployments, and approved actions.
  • Track improvement: Monitor changes and measure whether security posture improves over time.

In a March 19, 2026 product announcement, Discern described six specialized agents that support these workflows:

Agent Stated role
Scout Turns vendor best practices into measurable health checks and enriches asset and application inventories.
Atlas Turns plain-English questions into dashboards, charts, and reusable queries, including executive and operational reporting.
Oracle Explains posture and exposure changes, trends, anomalies, and drivers of risk.
Pathfinder Creates prioritized remediation plans using risk signals and business context; Discern says it weighs impact and exploitability.
Resolve Coordinates tickets, deployments, and approved remediation actions, while tracking owners and approvals.
Mesh Connects security tools and policies, maps coverage including MITRE, and supports cross-stack strategy.

These are capabilities described by the company, not independently verified performance results. The available announcements do not establish how accurately the agents make recommendations in a particular environment or how much they improve security outcomes.

Can Discern manage policies across multiple tools?

Yes. Cross-tool coordination is the product’s stated purpose: Discern says it connects security tools and policies, maps control coverage, and helps teams identify gaps across their stack. Its March 2026 announcement says the platform is featured in the marketplaces of Armis, Bitdefender, Bitsight, Jamf, and SentinelOne.

Marketplace presence indicates named ecosystem relationships, but the announcement does not specify the exact data, actions, or integration depth available for each product. Organizations evaluating Discern should confirm that their specific tools and required workflows are supported, including any approval steps before changes are made.

What does Discern cost?

CSO Online reported in 2023 that Discern pricing started at $5,000 and varied according to customer size and number of users. The report did not state whether that starting price was monthly, annual, or another billing period. No current public pricing or revised rate is established in the cited announcements, so the 2023 figure should not be treated as a current quote.

Who funded Discern Security?

Discern disclosed a $3 million funding round when it emerged from stealth in September 2023. SecurityWeek reported that the investors included BoldCap, WestWave Capital, Cyber Mentor Fund, Security Syndicate, and angel investors.

On July 30, 2026, Discern announced a $13 million Series A led by Forgepoint Capital, with First Rays Ventures, Growth Enjin Partners, Vela Ventures, and angel investors also participating. The company said it planned to use the new funding to expand engineering and product teams and its AI Skills and autonomous-capabilities library.

What should buyers evaluate?

Discern’s public materials describe a broad set of intended capabilities, but they do not provide independent benchmarks or customer-performance validation. A buyer should test the product against the organization’s own stack and requirements rather than infer results from the feature list.
