DigitalOcean offers AMD Instinct GPUs as rented cloud capacity through GPU Droplets, with pricing and availability that vary by GPU model, plan and region. The live pricing page accessed September 30, 2026 lists on-demand MI300X and MI325X, 12-month reserved MI300X, MI325X and MI350X, and spot MI350X and MI355X. Those figures are snapshots, not guaranteed rates or proof that a configuration is available in your region.

What DigitalOcean and AMD announced

DigitalOcean announced its collaboration with AMD on June 12, 2025, bringing AMD Instinct MI300X accelerators to GPU Droplets in single- and eight-GPU configurations. Its launch announcement described a price of $1.99 per GPU-hour at that time; that is a historical launch rate, not the current MI300X price. DigitalOcean’s 2025 announcement

In February 2026, DigitalOcean announced MI350X GPU Droplets and positioned them for production inference. These announcements establish product availability and vendor positioning, not independent comparative performance results. DigitalOcean reported more than 640,000 customers company-wide in the MI350X announcement; that figure is not a count of GPU customers. DigitalOcean’s 2026 announcement

Reserved pricing is listed for a 12-month commitment; DigitalOcean advises prospective customers to contact sales. Spot pricing depends on idle capacity, can change, and is not an assurance of uninterrupted access. How to decide whether a configuration fits

Match the plan to interruption tolerance

  • On-demand: Consider it when you need an available GPU without signing up for the listed 12-month reservation or accepting spot reclamation. Check the current rate and regional supply.
  • Reserved: The listed lower hourly rates come with a 12-month commitment. Review the actual contract conditions with DigitalOcean before comparing the rate with flexible capacity.
  • Spot: The listed spot models can be reclaimed, and rates and capacity depend on idle resources. This is better suited to interruption-tolerant work than a job that assumes uninterrupted runtime. Save progress periodically and ensure the workload can recover if an instance is reclaimed.

Compare model, memory and GPU count against the workload

MI300X and MI325X have listed memory capacities of 192 GB and 256 GB respectively, while the cited pricing page does not state memory figures for MI350X or MI355X. DigitalOcean describes GPU Droplets in one- or eight-GPU configurations, but verify the supported count for the exact model, plan and region rather than assuming all combinations scale the same way. More GPU memory or a larger GPU count is useful only if the model, software and parallelization strategy can use it.

Check software and storage needs

DigitalOcean offers AI/ML-ready images with vendor drivers and software preinstalled. Starting from a standard image can require manual driver and software setup. GPU Droplets include persistent boot storage and non-persistent scratch storage, so keep durable data and checkpoints somewhere that survives the instance lifecycle. DigitalOcean’s GPU Droplets overview

DigitalOcean’s launch announcement also described GPU Droplets and Kubernetes worker nodes, but that is a dated product claim. Verify current Kubernetes support and deployment requirements before planning around it. The supported workloads named in vendor materials include training, fine-tuning, inference and high-performance computing; actual performance and software compatibility need to be validated for the workload and stack in question.

Billing details that affect the total cost

GPU Droplets are billed by the second, with a 60-second or $0.01 minimum. Billing begins when the Droplet is created and ends when it is destroyed. Powering off a GPU Droplet does not stop billing because it continues to reserve resources; destroy it when you no longer need the allocation. DigitalOcean Droplet pricing and billing documentation

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a useful cost estimate, multiply the applicable per-GPU hourly rate by the GPU count and expected billed runtime, then account for commitment terms, spot interruptions, and any time an instance remains allocated while powered off. This arithmetic does not account for other possible charges or contract-specific terms, so review the full pricing and agreement details before committing.

What “low-cost” does—and does not—mean

In this context, “low-cost” describes DigitalOcean’s hosted GPU pricing, not a finding that AMD hardware is always cheaper, faster or better value than alternatives. The 2025 $1.99 MI300X launch rate is superseded as a current-price reference by the live pricing page, and vendor/customer statements about performance or efficiency are not independent benchmarks. Choose by the exact model and memory, current plan rate, commitment, region, instance size, workload compatibility and interruption risk—not by a headline rate alone.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
